Motivation Edit
Clarify who called a snap election. Currently, sometimes has cause (P828) is used, but the cause is different from who actually called an election. For example, June 2012 Greek legislative election (Q751553)has cause (P828)President of Greece (Q3409203) isn't correct, because the cause was the inability to form a government (failure of Greek government formation, May 2012 (Q5601958)). Hope this makes sense - feel free to ask if anything is unclear. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 23:22, 10 August 2019 (UTC)

- Question: Would this apply to 2017 United Kingdom general election (Q25052149) as well DannyS712? –MJL ‐Talk‐☖ 21:40, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- Perhaps this data should be stored in the more general items for the type of election instead. --Yair rand (talk) 23:36, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

- Is there a good reason this property is specific to elections? Could it be formulated in a more general way? ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 10:57, 13 August 2019 (UTC)
- Isn't it like that election are called by an entity defined in Constitiution or similar law? This should be called election reason. For example in Poland the reason could be inability to form government or cabinet stepdown but the election is always called by the President. It is also unclear wether we are talking about the function calling election or person calling election? Masti (talk) 09:24, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

- Comment I think I looked at this proposal before, but I'm still not really convinced. Maybe the inconsistency between the samples or the absence of any dates in the samples seems odd. Supposedly there would be a vote by the assembly or a decision by the President/PM to call that. It would be good if that was available in the statement. Otherwise it's not really clear what the property adds. Supposedly the items should somehow differentiate if the election was just scheduled around it's usual interval or if it was a special election .. Maybe has immediate cause (P1478) could be a parent property from whatever comes out of this proposal. --- Jura 19:06, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
- marking as ready as the discussion has stalled with no major concern: the scope can be broadened in the future if an appropriate generalization is found, dates can be added as qualifiers - I do not see anything blocking here − Pintoch (talk) 09:24, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
