Motivation edit

The Highland HER database is the in-house website and database run by Highland Council to document heritage locations in the corresponding area of northern Scotland. The range of items included is wider than just the scheduled monuments and nationally-designated locations tracked by Historic Scotland, but appears well cross-referenced to Historic Scotland and to Canmore when such cross-references exist -- indeed rather better than those databases appear to cross-reference each other.

Even when all three websites cover particular heritage locations, some content on the Highland site may be unique. It is also being promoted as a target for user additions by council-backed local community history initiatives, and by individuals. The site would therefore be a useful additional link to provide for heritage locations in this part of Scotland, including from Commons infoboxes, and as further support for the Wiki Loves Monuments campaign in this part of the world.
