IFLA value vocabularies ID
editOriginally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Authority control
Motivation
editIFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) provides numerous controlled vocabularies used in UNIMARC standard cataloging. IFLA (47) vocabularies cover different topics such as: Cartographic materials, Graphics, Sound recordings, Three-dimensional artefacts and realia, Visual projections, and some interesting vocabularies in the musical domain. The vocabularies contain URIs, permalinks, labels and definitions in English (even though some definitions are still pending). There are also current and pending translations of the terms in Arabic, Czech, German, Greek , English, Spanish, Basque, French, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian and Swedish (see for example: https://www.iflastandards.info/unimarc/terms/fom). As for http://www.rdaregistry.info/termList/, there are URIs available for linked data purposes for these vocabularies, and it would be beneficial to be able to link from Wikidata to them. Discussion
edit- Support thanks for proposing; I agree that it would be useful to link Wikidata to IFLA vocabularies. Like the RDA value vocabularies ID proposal, this property would benefit from having a complementary item for each vocabulary. However, I think the discussion concerning external identifier datatype properties and single values needs to be concluded before this property is created. - @ChristianKl: FYI, this is another proposal for a single property that will conflate multiple controlled vocabularies. I think we need to properly discuss the issues you have raised but property proposals might not be the best venue for such a discussion. - @Sic19:, @ChristianKl: I started creating items as suggested... i've created some items part of IFLA Value Vocabularies (Q104804819): UNIMARC Church mode of musical work (Q104804887), UNIMARC Form of musical work (Q104804911), UNIMARC Key of musical work (Q104804937), UNIMARC Type of electronic resource (Q104804949), is correct?--LiaFla (talk) 12:22, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- Support as per Simon, I think we can definitely discuss this and make it happen. --Sannita - not just another it.wiki sysop 16:47, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

- I also tag members of Wikidata:IFLA_Wikidata_Working_Group (@Smallison:, @Dan scott:, @Megs:, @Ktharani:, @Miguelmcorreia:, @Alexmar983:) to ask an opinion about this proposal. --LiaFla (talk) 12:02, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- Support seems like a good idea to support IFLA vocabularies and agree with Simon Cobb. Smallison (talk) 16:08, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
