Why not? Since there is already the person ID property. And so far there are no other database properties covering this category of works. (Is it necessary to create a totally analogous separate proposal for a venue ID property with a link like http://iobdb.com/Theatre/$1

Well, it didn't come to my mind that it's a database of the specific productions, and not of the plays (for example, Chekhov's The Seagull was staged multiple times).
