Motivation
editThe Museum Universe Data File is an authority file published by the United States w:Institute of Museum and Library Services, a US federal agency, which lists all known US museums, based on public records and administrative data. The data set contains a unique ID for every US museum, which should be added to their Wikidata items. Dominic (talk) 21:59, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
Discussion
edit- Support. @Dominic: How are these numbers constructed - do they always begin with "8"? Do they always have 10 digits? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:13, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- Observationally, those both appear to be true for all IDs so far, but I am not certain if that is a rule that is being followed for future entries as well. I don't have any insider information about this dataset, unfortunately, just what is in the documentation file. Dominic (talk) 22:19, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- I've now looked at the data file and they all seem to begin "840", with another 7 digits to follow. I've written a regex accordingly; we can always tweak it, if it turns out to be too restrictive. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:41, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
