Motivation

I'm currently looking to flesh out the model we'll need to store Olympic results in Wikidata. In the sport of athletics the wind speed is measured for short sprints and horizontal jumps. The impact of this is that the athlete performance is not viable as a record or world ranking if the wind speed is over +2.0 m/s - hence a performer could win gold with a wind-assisted long jump, yet another athlete could have set the Olympic record at a shorter, non-wind-assisted distance. This data is standard recording practice in athletics (e.g.). I'm not aware of common use of this concept outside of track and field events. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 12:58, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  •   Support Wind speed is necessary for any complete recording of an athletics performance because any sprint performances with wind over 2.0m/s are considered not record-eligible by the IAAF. Currently, it's impossible to create an accurate record-eligible all-time listing with e.g. a SPARQL query because of this, as it would contain ineligible performances with no way to tell which don't count.
