Motivation

edit

A bit like pages such as https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat%C3%A9gorie:Page_utilisant_P1082 , it would be helpful to show properties used in this or that module/infobox to help maintenance on modules/infoboxes, maintenance that could be crosswikis. And in a readable way. Bouzinac💬✒️💛 15:07, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  •   Oppose This is already covered by supported metadata (P8203). --Tinker Bell 23:42, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, that property covers only Q items, not the P ones and is rather unspecific in fact. Bouzinac💬✒️💛 05:15, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Infoboxes use different properties in different languages. I   Support the property if it would have a requirement that a qualifier for the language gets used. It's useful to understand who's affected when a property gets changed and I prefer to have that in a separate property and not within supported metadata (P8203).       Oppose Language isn't enough, templates are not the same across projects even in the same language. It's information specific to a particular page, not a language or project, so I don't think Wikidata items are the right place for this.
We already have a section (look for "This property is being used by:") on the property's talk page linking things like this (which is updated automatically by a bot). The page information page for properties also lists which wikis are "subscribed" to an entity (i.e. are using data from the entity) with a link to Special:EntityUsage on those wikis. That page doesn't seem to include the template/module which fetches the data and doesn't have a namespace filter, but getting that changed that seems like a much better way to make the information machine-readable, since it would update automatically. - Nikki (talk) 12:26, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Nikki we do have that section, but that section can't be queried via SPARQL. It would be useful to be able to present that information as structured data instead of Wikitext. Storing information as structured data is much more in the Wikidata spirit than storing it as Wikitext on talk pages. ChristianKl13:27, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would prefer the name to be more concise. ChristianKl21:04, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
