Motivation edit

The property complements the Wikdiata data model in the area of the performing arts. The intended use as described above fits within the initiative Wikidata:WikiProject_Performing_arts/Data_sources. Working on the Swiss data, Beat Estermann managed to map most of the database elements. Thanks to this project, some missing properties have been added to Wikidata, which are now used as well to get the Flanders Arts Institute data on Wikidata. The dramaturge property is a very specific one that is not available today, despite the large number of occurences (+3500) of this function related to performing arts productions in the Flanders Arts Institute dataset and no doubt as well in other performing arts databases all over the world.

Discussion edit

  • @Beat Estermann, the Wikidata record for Dramaturge states that it's not the same as stage director. We were looking for a way to use Dramaturge as a qualifier using "object has role" but we didn't manage to find a Property that would fit this qualifier..
  • "dramaturge" and "stage director" are indeed different things. It's right that not every production has a stage director. The first example hasn't got a stage director because it is a dance piece, where a choreographer is involved instead of a stage director. The second example is performed by a collective. Their productions are collective creations for which they don't work the "classical" way with a director, but they do work with a dramaturge. The best definition (in Dutch) of dramaturgy that I could find is this one by the Dutch Theatre Encyclopedia. Beireke1 (talk) 09:50, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I see. I hadn't looked into them that closely. --Beat Estermann (talk) 10:46, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
