Motivation

Many services and organizations have URL shorteners that cannot be represented currently on Wikidata. A property for this would be useful for cataloging them. It would be a subproperty of URL (P2699), like search formatter URL (P4354). It can use the qualifier statement is subject of (P805) if an item for the URL shortener exists.

•  Comment Do you anticipate some use for this in Wikidata where the shortener would be paired with the id (as a qualifier in some way) so that applications could apply the formatter directly? ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:50, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

  @ArthurPSmith: I couldn't think of an example but that is what I had in mind. There could be a future property called "shortened URL ID" which can be a qualifier to identifiers, or as a reference with a complementary stated in (P248) value. -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 17:59, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
