Motivation
editTo help document which is the subdivision of that currency/that unit, which is the immediate lower unit. For decimal currencies, their "cent" and for non-decimal currencies, their immediately lower level. Bouzinac 💬●✒️●💛 20:27, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
Discussion
edit- How about calling it "subdivision of this unit" so that foot (Q3710) -> inch (Q218593) is also a valid value? ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 20:48, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- So that for another example kilogram per mole (Q28924753) would also get gram per mole (Q28924752) ? Then, if that property "smaller unit" applies to any countable unit , smaller unit would also need the reverse property : "greater group of that unit" (sorry for poor english) Bouzinac 💬●✒️●💛 10:31, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, kilogram per mole (Q28924753) -> gram per mole (Q28924752) would also work. We generally avoid reverse properties in Wikidata whenever we can. While there are cases where we have them, having a property in one direction is rather a reason not to have it in the other direction then a reason to have it in the other direction. - Question With conversion to standard unit (P2442) already existing, I'm not sure how strongly this is needed. You could query its value and check if the conversion has a value >1 in the other unit to test if its a subdivision. Are there subdivision that vary or don't have constant conversion that this would be more useful for? TB5ivVaO1y55FkAogw1X (talk) 16:16, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Conversion are often impossible, because, for a currency (Q8142), the monetary subunit (Q11639620) is very often 1/100, but not always, as is non-decimal currency (Q7048891). But what's the name of that subdivision, and how to query it, with the actual model ? And would that query be directly usable by a wikipedia infobox ? By the way, conversion of a unit to the SI can be tricky, see for instance Q5151#P2442--Bouzinac 💬●✒️●💛 18:31, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Support That makes sense. I now see why this would be needed TB5ivVaO1y55FkAogw1X (talk) 20:18, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
