InductiveBot edit

Operator: Inductiveload (talk • contribs • logs)
Task/s: Manual addition of taxon name (P225) in items with taxon rank (P105) but not taxon name (P225), based on list of labels present. No automatic decision making.
Code: https://github.com/inductiveload/wikiscripts/blob/master/wikidata/taxon-without-name.py
Function details: This program (not really a bot, I believe) facilitates the addition of taxon name (P225) in items with taxon rank (P105) but not taxon name (P225) using Pywikipediabot as an interface to the Wikidat API and Wikidataquery.eu as the page list generator. It presents the user the list of labels present, along with the languages. The user can then choose one language's label to use as taxon name (P225), or to skip the item if there is no good choice, for example, if the item is a monotypic genus, but some sitelinks are for the species within the genus, in which case, manual intervention is done. Or, if there is no valid taxon name in the labels list, then the taxon name cannot be chosen by this method. No automatic decision is ever made, all edits require human input. I previously did not file a request because WD:BOTS defines bot as "tools used to make edits without the necessity of human decision-making", which does not include this script, as only haman decision making is used, it is the data collection and presentation to the user that is automatic. However, User:Hym411 asked that I file a request here anyway, and I happy to do so. If I should have come here sooner, I apologise. Additionally, if this kind of thing does require approval, probably WD:BOTS should say so, in addition to the existing guidance for true bots! Thank you!

- Would it be better to ask for a flood flag in this case? Inductiveload (talk) 08:56, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
