js

edit

Hello Ricordisamoa. I haven't tried your script yet, but it occurred to me that if the user is setting a gender, they are implicitly declaring that the item is about a person (with 99.99% probability anyway). Thus it would make sense to set the property P107, entity type, to "person" (Q215627) if it is not already set. Would you consider this? Thank you for contributing useful scripts. I would like to do so myself, but javascript has changed a lot in the last 7 years. :-) Espeso (talk) 07:35, 25 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Me again. Regarding your authority control script, it would be a good tool to also create dynamic links for ISBN and OCLC (possibly others) as well. Would you consider that? As for targets of the links, Worldcat seems to a common, neutral choice. Thanks for considering, Espeso (talk) 08:19, 10 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I am operator of user:VIAFbot github, I think our bots are clashing on Authority control Items see diff . Can we please discuss so we don't overlap?I see it happenning for LCCNs, and we had a meeting about what exactly to do with Authority Control Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Bot/VIAFbot/Meeting agenda so I hope we can adhere to these norms and work together. Email me if you'd like isalix at g mail dot com Maximilianklein (talk) 23:21, 3 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sure, we could share this task (maybe alphabetically separed), however Zolo asked me to stop my bot from running (forever?) --Ricordisamoa 07:55, 4 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
P.S.: as per this discussion, I created a JS function to properly format the LCCN identifier (by removing slashes and, in case, adding zeroes) before adding it as a claim. --Ricordisamoa 08:00, 4 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm still trying to understand what exactly your bot is doing. Can you open source the code, so we can see it? It seems to me like you are doing a direct Normdaten import. Is that correct? My bot imports dewiki's Normdaten, enwiki's Authority Control, frwikis Autorite, and itwiki's Controllo di Autorita. Then it follows VIAF links and finds redirects if they exits. Then it side loads ISNIs using a file I got from them that relates ISNIs to VIAFs. So it basically seems like there wouldn't be much problem if you wanted to import the Normdaten, as long as you also managed to do VIAF redirect following, and then I could do the other languages. As for the Normdaten import you should just be aware that some of the community does not want to import all of the Property:P107, and you should see the discussion, because I got slapped on the wrist for it. Maximilianklein (talk) 16:16, 4 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
The source is already available here; and no, SamoaBot does not import "main type (GND)", it simply loads the page content and searches for AC codes with some regular expressions. Update: I'm going to update the source, since I'm importing also IMDb codes. --Ricordisamoa 16:19, 4 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Magyar Királyi Honvédség

edit

Please stop adding the Hungarian article iw: hu: Magyar Királyi Honvédség is about the royal Hungarian army after WW I, whereas other articles (German, Slovene, Italian) are about the royal Hungarian army in the period 1867-1918. 188.230.173.143 14:53, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Strange! I don't understand hungarian, but the pages' titles are almost the same. I've noticed that here. --Ricordisamoa 15:57, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

You do not have to understand a word of Hungarian, just look at the dates in the infobox of the Hungarian article. The titles are really the same, but articles are about different armies. As far as I could ascertain the only equivalent of hu: Magyar Királyi Honvédség in other languages is de:Königlich Ungarische Armee. --IP 213 (talk) 18:52, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've tried to fix it. Are you using it in the main namespace or in others? --Ricordisamoa 22:10, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
P.S.: now it requires ScriptTranslator --Ricordisamoa 22:10, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
No bugs anymore, but I still don't know how does this work. When or where I should see the link what script provides? --Stryn (talk) 22:17, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Right to the description field, next to edit: a lcFirst link (but only if the first letter of the description in your language is Uppercase). --Ricordisamoa 22:20, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hmm... I still can't see it on any item. E.g. Q128109 and English language, link does not appear. Might be that I'm just too tired to see it, so I will go to sleep :) --Stryn (talk) 22:28, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Grazie in ogni caso. --Aubrey (talk) 10:38, 30 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations on your election as an Administrator.

As an Administrator, you are allowed into #wikimedia-admin, the cross-wiki coordination channel for Wikimedia administrators. Any member of the channel can invite you in temporarily, but you need an invite exemption from a channel operator to get in whenever you want. Please come to #wikimedia and ask for an invite.

Any admin from any project is welcome and it is a good place for cross-wiki coordination of vandal and spam fighting. It is also useful for new admins to contact more experienced admins in real-time to get help with the more complicated admin tasks.

Thank you

Bot on hold?

edit

Hi!

I saw you added the IMDb identifier thing that I asked for here, which is great, but SamoaBot doesn't seem to be doing anything. Is it on hold for now? When can I expect it to be running? Gabbe (talk) 20:20, 5 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

As per above, I'm not running SamoaBot at the moment, because it overlaps with VIAFbot. I and Maximilianklein are still looking for a solution. Please ask him. --Ricordisamoa 20:45, 5 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
P.S. since SamoaBot isn't set up to import from nl.wiki other codes than IMDb, I'm running it. --Ricordisamoa 20:48, 5 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Splendid. Thanks! Gabbe (talk) 21:58, 5 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Here is a bug. You should verify that the "id" parameter is indeed a series of digits before adding them. Gabbe (talk) 11:43, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
(I've fixed this for now, both here and on the Dutch Wikipedia. Gabbe (talk) 11:45, 7 April 2013 (UTC))Reply
Thank You, it's   fixed now! Moreover, I've set up the script to import IMDb codes from en.wiki, too. --Ricordisamoa 12:09, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I recently solved a bug that allowed importing IMDb codes from pages of non-films. --Ricordisamoa 12:24, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Is the en_wiki imports based on having the {{IMDb title}}-template? Because that is used on a lot of pages that don't necessarily have anything to do with the film in question. For example, I see that SamoaBot added the identifier "tt0076319" to the page Q2530921, which is a musical. It should have added the identifier to the page Q446633, which is about the film. Gabbe (talk) 12:33, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I rollbacked most of those edits (it was adding IMDb codes to persons!), and   fixed the bug here. Now it relies on en:Template:Infobox film. --Ricordisamoa 12:37, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Here, for example, it added the identifier "tt0089907". The item Q3226427 is about the film series, rather than the individual films themselves. The identifier "tt0089907" belongs to item Q1475119. Gabbe (talk) 12:45, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
I   prevented the bot to add IMDb codes when the page contains several occurrences of en:Template:IMDb title. --Ricordisamoa 13:05, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Fantastic! Thanks. Gabbe (talk) 13:15, 7 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Just a small hint when you delete pages, check where they are link at and fix the links where you moved the page to so people don't land on pages like this or a courtesy notice at my talk page would been nice.--Lam-ang (talk) 06:18, 14 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

SamoaBot adding duplicates

Another one, Q6543038. Gabbe (talk) 16:30, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
That's not my fault! SamoaBot at first imported VIAF/GND/LCCN/etc. but overlapped with VIAFbot, so I stopped it from doing this task; but now Dexbot is doing this task, too. And since SamoaBot caches a list of pages with the corresponding IMDb codes, some minutes before adding them to items, and Dexbot's edit preceded it by one minute... --Ricordisamoa 17:36, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I see that you recently deleted this item as being non-notable. (By the way, the deleted English Wikipedia page was about an unrelated person with the same name.) I don't dispute that James Loveland isn't notable enough for his own Wikipedia article, but he is notable enough to be listed in an infobox at w:Loveland, Ohio as the city's namesake. Do you happen to know if there will be a way for Wikidata to provide such information to Wikipedias without creating separate items, like the one you deleted? I'm not necessarily trying to get the item restored; I'm just wondering which feature I should wait for. :^) – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 11:15, 26 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

To allow your source code to be developed outside of the pywikipedia source direction, add something like

PYTHONPATH=$PYTHONPATH:~/pywikipedia/
export PYTHONPATH

to a file that gets run on login, usually ~/.bashrc - this avoids typing the export PYTHONPATH part in each time you log in. Naturally, change paths to match your installation.

Suggestion for script UserInfo.js

Hi, Ricordisamoa.
How about if you use this than "duration-seconds" or "duration-years" or ect. for variable on your script? And how about to use this to make variable for ""less than one second"? Than how to translate the other variable, like "A", "old", "with", "Last edited", "and"?
Kind regards,  Ę-oиė  >>> 18:45, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Now it uses "just-now" (diff);
  • what do you mean with the first sentence?
  • I believe "A", "old", etc. are a bit out-of-scope of MediaWiki messages, but I'll try to find something similar; in case, I'll adjust my script to match an existing messages that could do the job.
Regards, Ricordisamoa 19:29, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Great! :) For the first sentence I mean are to change "duration-seconds" MediaWiki:Duration-seconds/en with MediaWiki:Seconds/en and so-on to make it shorten.
Btw I think you can remove variable "old" (example for lang "id")

--ValterVB (talk) 13:48, 4 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ecco qua:
wd = pywikibot.Site('wikidata','wikidata').data_repository() # repository di Wikidata
item = pywikibot.ItemPage(wd,'Q4115189') # la "Pagina delle prove"/sandbox
item.get() # necessario
if not 'p141' in item.claims: # verifico che la proprietà non sia già presente (si può omettere in caso di valori multipli)
	reference=pywikibot.Claim(wd,'p143') # "importato da"
	reference.setTarget(pywikibot.ItemPage(wd,'Q11920')) # "Wikipedia in italiano"
	claim = pywikibot.Claim(wd,'p141') # "stato di conservazione IUCN"
	claim.setTarget(pywikibot.ItemPage(wd,'Q237350')) # "specie estinta"
	item.addClaim(claim) # aggiunge l'asserzione
	claim.addSource(reference) # imposta la fonte

Fammi sapere, ciao! --Viscontino (talk) 09:22, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

--Ricordisamoa 14:14, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
--Viscontino (talk) 14:46, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
var snaks={
	"p143":[{
			"snaktype":"value",
			"property":"p143", // Property:P143 = "importato da"
			"datavalue":{
				"type":"wikibase-entityid",
				"value":{"entity-type":"item","numeric-id":11920} // Q11920 = Wikipedia in italiano
			}
	}]
};
$.post(
	mw.util.wikiScript("api"),
	{
		"entity":wgPageName, // ID dell'elemento
		"statement":"q7350801$5938F927-65D8-496B-B929-1ED94B060A00", // ID univoco dell'asserzione, è solo un esempio
		"snaks":JSON.stringify(snaks), // naturalmente il parametro "snaks" va convertito in stringa
		"token":mw.user.tokens.get("editToken"),
		"action":"wbsetreference"
	},
	function(data){
		// verifico se ho avuto successo
	}
);

--Ricordisamoa 15:25, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

--Ricordisamoa 15:29, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

SamoaBot Edits

edit

Your bot adds wrong scientific names as well as wrong taxon ranks. Could you try to increase the reliability? Just having a lot of data waste in wikidata is not senseful. You could try to integrate some reasoning (e.g. adding information only if the same info is present in ALL linked articles), scientific names with 2 parts should be species level, 3 parts should be subspecies or something similar. I do not like the idea of needing a lot of human interaction to fix the avoidable errors bots made. FelixReimann (talk) 14:20, 10 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I don't see anything wrong with "Achyrolimonia trigonoides subtrigonoides" as taxon name... see the nl.wiki article; taxon rank is wrong (it's a subspecies) but there is no way to programmatically retrieve it from the infobox, and I still don't find it a big problem. --Ricordisamoa 14:28, 10 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, wrong item, see [1]. FelixReimann (talk) 14:33, 10 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
You think it is not a big problem that you create wrong information (bot-based and thus in masses) just because you can't get the correct information from a taxo box? Really? I think no information is better than the wrong one. FelixReimann (talk) 14:35, 10 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
That's why: [2]! It simply imported the infobox value, you cannot blame me if the infoboxes are incorrect! --Ricordisamoa 14:39, 10 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
But this infobox vi:Achyrolimonia trigonoides trigonoides has always been correct. If checking also this linked language version, your bot could see that there is a difference. If we want to have wikidata as the basis of all wikipedias, we should at least try to have high quality sources. And if you import from wikipedia (not a very good source), then you could at least check if the different language versions agree. If all would be wrong then I would not have started this discussion. FelixReimann (talk) 14:52, 10 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
The problem is, that this error does not happen once or twice but very very often. And this list shows only the errors visible due to the given constraint. So, yes, I blame you as the bot operator to mass add a lot of wrong information, because you rely only on the correctness of the interwikilinks (LOL!) and the information of a single wikipedia. Please, add some kind of error checking to reduce the creation of data rubbish. FelixReimann (talk) 15:21, 10 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Besides this, when do you plan to fix these and these errors your bot made? Do get an overview: Every entry at Wikidata:Database_reports/Constraint_violations/P225 in the section "Unique value" violations where the same item is linked twice or more times is due to the second error about User:Sk!d informed you. I guess around 3000 items are affected. FelixReimann (talk) 14:05, 11 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
OK, it's removing duplicates now (example). --Ricordisamoa 14:13, 11 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Most of the duplicate entries are removed now. However, about 350 are still missing. You find them at Wikidata:Database_reports/Constraint_violations/P225, most of them starting at "Bicava fuscicollis". It would be great, if your bot could remove them also. FelixReimann (talk) 07:50, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Mind reading! Just a minute ago I set up the bot so that it can now fix up to 3-duplicate claims: see a preview here! --Ricordisamoa 07:55, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
:-) Thanks! FelixReimann (talk) 08:11, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

IMDb errors

edit

Hi!

Is it possible to check if there's more than one IMDb template on a page before importing its value? That would avoid errors like this one (the IMDb identifier added is that of Lena Endre).

Also, is it possible for the bot to check if the article itself concerns a film or actor? That would avoid errors like this (the IMDb identifiers belongs to a film about the organization). Gabbe (talk) 07:35, 15 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

  Fixed, now it skips the item if:
  • multiple {{IMDb}} templates are found;
  • {{IMDb|film}} is found but no {{Film}} is present on the page
  • {{IMDb|nome}} is found but no {{Bio}} is present

Hi

You added another link and marked this page for traslation. Did you select the "Do not invalidate translations" check box? If yes, why? If not, there's a bug somewhere because the Russian translation is shown as actual. --Michgrig (talk) 05:18, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I did, because that link wasn't urgent IMHO. --Ricordisamoa 10:20, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
But I don't think that the matter here is urgency. When the translations are not invalidated, the translators will not know if something has been changed. Hence, the translation will be updated only if someone notifies the difference. My opinion is that this check box is only for the cases when a change in the English version does not influence the translations (e.g., a typo) --Michgrig (talk) 10:26, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
OK, I'll re-mark it for translation. --Ricordisamoa 10:28, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Merge of items

edit

Thank you for the welcome message, and thank you for the execution of deletions! I proposed Q8889511 for deletion (because it contained less information) but you deleted Q7616339. Should I always merge to the element with the lower id? And did you change Q7616339 manually or did you use technical help? --Alexander.Meier (talk) 23:36, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, always the item with the higher Qid should be deleted. To update the other item, I simply added claims manually, and later used draggableSitelinks to add sources. But also my bot helped me a lot.   --Ricordisamoa 23:51, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! --Alexander.Meier (talk) 00:00, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ricordisamoa, you are not quite right. In Help:Merge, it is written that it is acceptable to delete the item with lower Q-number if this needs less efforts. --Michgrig (talk) 08:30, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dear Docu, I am alreay using "move" and "request deletion" tool. But I have to move all links one by one if there are more links + statements, aliases, labels and descriptions can not be moved by "move" tool. After moving all things one by one, I request deletion, write reason for deletion "merged with Q####". Instead if we have a tool where we just add Q#### and Q#### and 'click', it done. :) see some discussion here:[5] regards. --Nizil Shah (talk) 12:55, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Update

--Aubrey (talk) 11:07, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

--Ricordisamoa 11:16, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Grandissimo, gran bel lavoro.

--ValterVB (talk) 11:46, 19 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

;) --Paperoastro (talk) 07:03, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Chemical element data

edit

Hi, thank you for the proposition of using your bot to add data. But as the pressure will increase to provide data AND sources I think we have to start to work in that direction. I propose you to give you an excel file or a text file with some data for chemical elements (atomic number, atomic mass, symbol) with the source. Can you create the code which read the excel/text file and import automatically values and add the source in one operation ? My advice is to create a generic code for that task in order to provide that service to all contributors who want to add massive data sets with sources.

My proposition for data format is the next one:

  • Data file
symbol atomic number atomic mass source
P246 PXXX PYYY source
Q556 H 1 1.008 A1
Q560 He 2 4.003 A1
... ... ... ... ...
  • Source file
Periodic title author volume issue page date of publication DOI Language
P248 PZZZ PAAA P478 P433 P304 P577 P356 P407
A1 Q2425378 Atomic weights of the elements 2009 (IUPAC Technical Report) Michael E. Wieser, Tyler B. Coplen 83 2 359–396 12 December 2010 10.1351/PAC-REP-10-09-14 Q1860
A2 ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

We can merge both files but this will imply to copy redundant data to fill source parameters at each row if there is only one source for all data (like in this case see the official source from IUPAC).

There are plenty of details to solve (qualifier, numeric value with uncertainty,...) but I propose you to work on a real file so if you agree can you send me an email and I will provide you a excel/text file (what is the best for your code ?) and we can start discuting.
