Hello Ricordisamoa. I haven't tried your script yet, but it occurred to me that if the user is setting a gender, they are implicitly declaring that the item is about a person (with 99.99% probability anyway). Thus it would make sense to set the property P107, entity type, to "person" (Q215627) if it is not already set. Would you consider this? Thank you for contributing useful scripts. Me again. Regarding your authority control script, it would be a good tool to also create dynamic links for ISBN and OCLC (possibly others) as well. Would you consider that? I'm still trying to understand what exactly your bot is doing. Can you open source the code, so we can see it? It seems to me like you are doing a direct Normdaten import. Is that correct? My bot imports dewiki's Normdaten, enwiki's Authority Control, frwikis Autorite, and itwiki's Controllo di Autorita. Then it follows VIAF links and finds redirects if they exits. Then it side loads ISNIs using a file I got from them that relates ISNIs to VIAFs. So it basically seems like there wouldn't be much problem if you wanted to import the Normdaten, as long as you also managed to do VIAF redirect following, and then I could do the other languages. As for the Normdaten import you should just be aware that some of the community does not want to import all of the Property:P107, and you should see the discussion, because I got slapped on the wrist for it. You do not have to understand a word of Hungarian, just look at the dates in the infobox of the Hungarian article. The titles are really the same, but articles are about different armies. As far as I could ascertain the only equivalent of hu: Magyar Királyi Honvédség in other languages is de:Königlich Ungarische Armee. --IP 213 (talk) 18:52, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

There is a little bug, the IMDb identifier is for all four imdb links, not only the names:

Anyway, it's work on my commons.js @minwiki (wikipedia with UTC+7 timezone) with "mw.loader", the older (User:PleaseStand/User info) not work at all. But on idwiki it's not work with mw.loader, it's work locally with "importscript" command from my translating page with an error at this situation. Can you check it? I recently solved a bug that allowed importing IMDb codes from pages of non-films. --Ricordisamoa 12:24, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Is the en_wiki imports based on having the {{IMDb title}}-template? Because that is used on a lot of pages that don't necessarily have anything to do with the film in question. For example, I see that SamoaBot added the identifier "tt0076319" to the page Q2530921, which is a musical. It should have added the identifier to the page Q446633, which is about the film. I rollbacked most of those edits (it was adding IMDb codes to persons!), and  fixed the bug here. Now it relies on en:Template:Infobox film. --Ricordisamoa 12:37, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Here, for example, it added the identifier "tt0089907". The item Q3226427 is about the film series, rather than the individual films themselves. The identifier "tt0089907" belongs to item Q1475119. Gabbe (talk) 12:45, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Well, at the moment I'm rewriting my scripts for the Pywikipedia-rewrite branch (this seems to be recommended...) so SamoaBot is currently in breakdown. I succeeded to add claims (diff) and now it can even add more descriptions at once (see) but it fails to create references...
A good guide (but still incomplete) would be this.

I have download PyWikipediaBot but i dont understand this instrudion:

To allow your source code to be developed outside of the pywikipedia source direction, add something like

So I spoke with some devs in #wikimedia-tech, and it took a weird API edit to force the contentmodel to change to Scribunto (the Lua format). Grazie mille, funziona quasi tutto. Il problema che mi rimane è quello di aggiungere 2 valori alla stessa sproprietà con relative fonti. Aiuto script

Ciao, volevo chiederti un aiuto. Ho creato uno script in JS abbastanza efficiente, il quale importa correttamente molti dei valori presenti nel template "Divisione amministrativa" (per adesso ottimizzato per i comuni italiani) scartando ovviamente i dati già presenti. Ho due problemi: non capisco come inserire le fonti (che sarebbe sempre it.wiki) e nonostante mi segnali che potrebbe aggiungere altre proprietà, noto che moltissime le "salta", diciamo che ne fa un massimo di 2 per elemento (e quindi devo eseguire più volte il codice...).

Vedevo che Pywikipediabot sembra molto efficiente ma non l'ho mai usato. Ho intenzione di usare lo script attuale per creare un elenco del tipo:

• entità - proprietà - valore - tipovalore

per poi passare con Pywikipediabot, prendere questi dati, e inserirli (dopo un altro controllo se esistono già) con le fonti. Quando hai tempo potresti riuscire a creare uno script che funzioni in questo modo? Se vuoi ti passerò i miei dati in modo da smezzarci il lavoro. E se tutto andrà bene con questo template, implementerò anche il template Bio e altri!

Se mi fai vedere il codice posso provare a capire come mai "salti" alcune proprietà; ma allora perché non ricreare l'intero sistema con Piwikipediabot? Some of the samples still need fixing, but otherwise it seems to work.

If no version in a given language is available, it falls back to English.

The only odd thing is that one has to use "uselang" to switch to a given language in addition to the link, e.g. Wikidata:List_of_properties/es?uselang=es#Lago

SamoaBot Edits

Your bot adds wrong scientific names as well as wrong taxon ranks. Could you try to increase the reliability? Just having a lot of data waste in wikidata is not senseful. You could try to integrate some reasoning (e.g. adding information only if the same info is present in ALL linked articles), scientific names with 2 parts should be species level, 3 parts should be subspecies or something similar. I do not like the idea of needing a lot of human interaction to fix the avoidable errors bots made. FelixReimann (talk) 14:20, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

I don't see anything wrong with "Achyrolimonia trigonoides subtrigonoides" as taxon name... see the nl.wiki article; taxon rank is wrong (it's a subspecies) but there is no way to programmatically retrieve it from the infobox, and I still don't find it a big problem. --Ricordisamoa 14:28, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

But this infobox vi:Achyrolimonia trigonoides trigonoides has always been correct. If checking also this linked language version, your bot could see that there is a difference. If we want to have wikidata as the basis of all wikipedias, we should at least try to have high quality sources. And if you import from wikipedia (not a very good source), then you could at least check if the different language versions agree. If all would be wrong then I would not have started this discussion. The problem is, that this error does not happen once or twice but very very often. And this list shows only the errors visible due to the given constraint. So, yes, I blame you as the bot operator to mass add a lot of wrong information, because you rely only on the correctness of the interwikilinks (LOL!) and the information of a single wikipedia. IMDb errors

Hi!

Is it possible to check if there's more than one IMDb template on a page before importing its value? That would avoid errors like this one (the IMDb identifier added is that of Lena Endre).

In entrambe le liste ho segnato con "× 2" le voci presenti più di una volta (magari perché reindirizzamenti con titoli diversi). Per me RCantoroBot può partire, ma è meglio che verifichi preventivamente la presenza dell'asserzione in ogni elemento. Ciao :) Scusa il ritardo, ma ho avuto molto da fare. Ricordi lo script per bot che importa dati automaticamente da Wikipedia che avevo scritto? Su User:Viscontino/infobox_importer.js trovi il codice sorgente (che puoi convertire in Python se preferisci). L'ho usato facendo almeno 150 mila edit con questa versione e non ha mai dato problemi. Sono sicuro che tu saprai migliorarlo, non sono proprio un esperto in JS. Non avrò tempo da dedicare né allo script né a ViscoBot per un po', quindi ho pensato fosse meglio pubblicare il codice, magari sarà utile. Hi, thank you for the proposition of using your bot to add data. But as the pressure will increase to provide data AND sources I think we have to start to work in that direction. I propose you to give you an excel file or a text file with some data for chemical elements (atomic number, atomic mass, symbol) with the source. Can you create the code which read the excel/text file and import automatically values and add the source in one operation ? My advice is to create a generic code for that task in order to provide that service to all contributors who want to add massive data sets with sources.

We can merge both files but this will imply to copy redundant data to fill source parameters at each row if there is only one source for all data (like in this case see the official source from IUPAC).

Hi! I implemented #getAllBackLinks and #replaceEntityLinks on merge.js that I think is useful for developing the tool for moving back links to an entity. It can be used for example by iterating each item claim and adding them if needed to be change on ActionsQueue by setClaim (something same #replaceEntityLinks had on this version). It would be great if you test them and develop moving claims UI if you like (because it is a bit confusing for me how to interact with user for moving backlinks). I filed a RFBOT some time ago for this same task; some discussion took place and several concerns were raised; the result was that these data should be particularly paired with appropriate sources, and we should avoid importing these properties from Wikipedia until a clear consensus for using them is reached on an apposite RFC. Hi, It seems to me that all level 2 subcategories of sv:Kategori:Pseudophasmatoidea (at genus level) have a wikidata-entry duplicate to the corresponding category at ceb, and there may be more duplicates in these trees, or even a level deeper. Hi, I saw this and have a comment. I looked at these categories, and I can also follow overcategories with identical names up in the category tree to sv:Kategori:Animalia and ceb:Kategoriya:Animalia. I can make a program which recursively can find all subcategories from for instance Animalia with the same name in two languages, and based on that writes a list of items which probably should be merged. There is also another way a bot could navigate that database. It could just try out every MeSH ID and then compare the heading with the wikidata entry. The bot just always has to add 1 to the last number of the URL. Examples:

Hi. The property P411 proposed by you does not seem to me clear. There are Anglican/Coptic Orthodox/Eastern Orthodox/Roman Catholic saints, whose canonization status varies depending on the church (see: en:List of saints). it.wikivoyage templates

Hey Ricordi, thanks very much for using your script wizardry on the large list of Sunda articles. As you are also a contributor on Italian Wikivoyage, I wondered if you'd be interested in fixing some templates that appear to have been moved across from Wikipedia without their interwikis being take out. Some have as many as 83 interwikis, which on Wikivoyage is of course impossible. They are partly listed here. There is no rush though. Just wanted to make you aware of the issue. Thanks again. Girando fra gli item mi sono reso conto che fra unioni, spostamenti ecc. molte etichette sono andate perse o non sono state inserite, credi sia fattibile o che sia utile, far passare il bot in modo che inserisca tutte le etichette mancanti per ogni lingua con il titolo della pagina presente nell'eventuale link alla rispettiva wiki? (se non sbaglio un bot sta facendo questo ma solo in francese). Magari se c'e' qualcosa fra parentesi metterlo nella descrizione. Non è così semplice gestire le specificazioni tra parentesi, inoltre i link a Wikivoyage sollevano problemi: perché i link a Wikipedia dovrebbero avere la precedenza per le etichette? E sono ancora valide le diciture "categoria di Wikipedia" e "template di Wikipedia"? Mass merge

Hoi, I have identified (in theory and can substantiate this) a really large number of duplicate Wikidata records. My best guess is that there will be over 100.000. You have been pointed out as being the merge guru. Do you know of a way in which this can be accomplished ?

All these items have to do with the taxonomy of animals and insects. Most of them will have taxoboxes referring to items that are named exactly the same. I am in the process of writing a blogpost about the problem. GerardM (talk) 22:22, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

My script can merge pairs of items formatted as in User:Byrial/Category+name merge/sv-ceb-Animalia or User:Soulkeeper/dups, by only comparing the page titles, and delete them via my sysop account. Tecnicamente hai effettuato un'unione incompleta.

1. Vai nelle preferenze e abilita il gadget "Merge";
2. in Brahmanism (Q3643561) dovrebbe apparire un messaggio "might have been merged with...": clicca sull'icona;
3. spunta le caselle "Unisci sempre nell'elemento con minore numero Q" e "Richiedi la cancellazione degli elementi svuotati in RfD";
4. premi "Unione".

Tutte le etichette, le descrizioni, gli alias e le dichiarazioni mancanti verranno trasferiti in Brahmanism (Q889766), quindi il gadget richiederà automaticamente la cancellazione di Brahmanism (Q3643561) attraverso WD:RFD.

This actually has nothing to do with Wikidata, but I have another question maybe you can help me with, since I know you are good with Lua-- is it possible to use Lua from Wikivoyage to access image data such as dimensions (width or height in pixels) from image files on commons (or their respective copied-info page on WV)? This would be very useful for us, so we could automatically police banner images which are not the right size or aspect ratio. Something where we could, for example, use calls like these:

alcune lingue non le riconosce (esempio: abs), altre le scrive errate (esempio vec che scrive "véneto"), altre ancora non le traduce (esempio "simple" che mi scrive "Simple English"), per le lingue più conosciute, esempio italiano, tedesco, inglese ecc, va bene, ma quando vai nel "difficile" perde i colpi. Hi Ricordisamoa, are you still maintaining the wonderful AuthorityControl tool? I could see that there is no hyperlink for statements CAS Registry Number (P231) but found that an API can provide one. some months ago I filed a request (Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Bot/FischBot 4) to import date of birth (P569) and date of death (P570) from the German Wikipedia. Because of missing sources the task was not approved. Since there is no absolute need for sources anymore the task could be approved now. Since I have not yet written all the code I want to ask you if you can run this task. Your bot is already importing date of birth (P569) and date of death (P570) from English Wikipedia and was approved for this task (Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Bot/SamoaBot 26), so maybe you can also import the dates from German Wikipedia? Hello Pyfisch, my bot does not import date of birth (P569) and date of death (P570) from the English Wikipedia articles themselves. Instead, it uses a prepared list by Magnus Manske. Importation of Author: links

Hi! I'm already running a bot that adds sitelinks, labels and some authority control ids from Author: pages using "Wikipedia" parameter of various Author templates. I've already run it in sv, ca, es and pl Wikisources and I've something ready for fr, en, de, it and uk Wikisources (I plan to run them tomorrow). But no bot is actually running for Category, Help, Template and Wikisource namespaces and I don't removes interwiki. So, if your bot manage these namespaces it would be amazing. Thanks for your help! I think much has been already done (mainly from the Italian edition, which is the 3rd by size), but now I need to work on the linkage between the smaller languages and their respective Wikipedias – which is made via apposite and wiki-specific templates – and I don't know how much it will take. You can also ask User:Ladsgroup, whose tireless (though not infallible) Dexbot has made a very hard work. I have seen that you have written many scripts for pywkibot (Thanks!); maybe could you help me.
I would like to create with pywikibot new items which have no links with any wikipedia page. I have worked on artworks existing in different Wikipedia and now I would like to add with my bot -ShonagonBot- new artworks items which don't need to be created on wikipedia. But after many many searches, I don't find the way.
Do you know if it is possible ? And if it is possible, what kind of script, could I use for this ?

@Shonagon: in pywikibot/core, you have to set '-1' as the id when creating an ItemPage instance. I've created testwikidata:Q537 with the following code: (do not run it as-is on the real repository!)

Creating an item with statements in a single edit is possible, but not very easy. Every claim needs to be in the serialized JSON format used by Wikibase. Credo che su sv.wiki abbiano fatto un po' di confusione dato che il binomio Arius seemani non esiste ma è composto da un genere esistente (Arius) da cui la specie è stata spostata ad Ariopsis e da un nome specifico inesistente, probabilmente un typo (seemani). @FRacco: non visualizzi il link nel menù a tendina perché InterwikiList usa ScriptTranslator, un sistema sperimentale e ultra-moderno (leggi "non più sviluppato") per la traduzione di script. My friend User:Remi.Mathis was asking me today whether BnF data had been used in Wikidata. I remembered Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Bot/SamoaBot 32 as being closed as 'Not done' because of licensing concerns but it seems I was mistaken. Have data from BnF been used in the end?

@Jean-Frédéric: despite the discussion's outcome, SamoaBot's task 32 was never actually run, for technical (URL guessing etc.), ethical (reliability, proper sourcing etc.) and legal (database rights etc.) reasons. L'interfaccia di modifica di Wikidata funziona normalmente in JavaScript, ma se quest'ultimo è stato disattivato dall'utente o non funziona per qualsiasi motivo, il link rimanda a un'apposita pagina speciale che permette di modificare i dati di base. Se il problema persiste dovresti esaminare la console del browser e/o fornirmi informazioni sul browser che usi (anche via email, se preferisci). PS: "Imposta un collegamento al sito" funziona comunque, nel tuo caso è sufficiente compilare "ID del sito" ("itwiki" per Wikipedia in italiano, "mtwiki" per Wikipedia in maltese, "commonswiki" per Commons, ecc.) e "Collegamento al sito" (il titolo della pagina da collegare). --Ricordisamoa 23:01, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

@Frimelle: Hi Lucie! As I wrote in a follow-up to the original post, the code is under review at gerrit:202610. It is working fine; the only reason I refrained from merging it is that I couldn't find a Gerrit URL to access the Git repository and browse the code at the same time, for use in toolinfo.json. If we agree on a stable URL (GitHub?), it can be merged. Also note that, for performance reasons, the app is set to use the 'official' Wikidata API for labels only, while the actual data is obtained via Wikidata Query. --Ricordisamoa 18:37, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

I note that Chepstow did not have this element. Can we check the whole lot with a bot. Lists such as this one of Welsh people who died in 2015 depend on having every city, town and village to include P131. I have a bot, if that helps, but have only worked on WP so far. Ciao Ricordisamoa. Per caso sai se l'autoEdit ha smesso di funzionare oppure sono io che non lo imposto correttamente? Questi giorni sto lavorando sui distretti peruviani e mi farebbe comodo se nei campi "descrizione" e "sito" trovassi già rispettivamente "comune del Perù" e "it". Ho fatto un po' di prove con autoEdit.js, autoEditLists.js e common.js usando Firefox e Chrome ma niente (naturalmente ho anche attivato il gadget autoEdit nelle preferenze). Keyboard_shortcuts in archive

Hey! I just tested your keyboard shortcuts and it seems to work (in Chrome). The instructions were a bit hard to find since they were archived: Wikidata_talk:Tools/Archive_1#Keyboard_shortcuts I was thinking to update the tool page, but maybe it makes more sense to move it back or put on a separate page, perhaps add instructions briefly on main page? If keeping as a link, I don't know if the link should be part of translation. Makes no sense? I see you are involved in translation so I hope you fix it!

PS: Even though Archiving is annoying because it breaks links, your talk page is a bit long. Doesn't feel active with all those "translation invitations". Would it make sense to "archive" those and "subscribe to invitations" on a separate page? Jagulin (talk) 15:50, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, Jagulin. Indeed I see no reason why the shortcuts should not be listed on the Tools page directly. So I have got that changed and marked for translation. About PS: I'm still not sold on Structured Discussions (Flow), or willing to archive my talk page either. Thanks, looks good. Looking back I see that my "fix it" may have sounded demanding. It was my intention to assist if you didn't have any opinion, but then I forgot about it.

And of course the talk-page is yours to manage as you wish. No shame at all, I just wanted to offer my view on it. I'm personally not fully "sold" on automatic posts to talk page (since there's no talk involved) and the engaged editors could easily add a watch page instead. wbEntity config value to be dropped on July 24th

Hello,

We are about to drop the mw.config.get( 'wbEntity') config value, that is deprecated for two years. Starting on Wednesday, July 24th, scripts that use this value may encounter issues.

I noticed that the following scripts are still using this value:

• User:Ricordisamoa/GeneaWiki.js
• User:Ricordisamoa/InterwikiList.js
• User:Ricordisamoa/LowercaseDescription.js
• User:Ricordisamoa/Reasonator.js
• User:Ricordisamoa/SetGender.js
• User:Ricordisamoa/Wikispecies.js
• User:Thibaut120094/preview.js

I suggest that you update it, for example by using the hook wikibase.entityPage.entityLoaded (see an example here).

Merged items

I noticed some of the actions of merging were deleted from the history. I'd want to know if you can access them, an example is Q3083701 and Q2713555. I merged from ptwiki project, I was a newbie through another account (User:SKauane). Another user reverted the actions and doesn't appear in the history pages either (User:Capmo). Labels languages in local names?

Hello there, I see that you have made a script that changes the labels languages names to user language, now since that, that has become standard it seems. I would like to know if it would be possible to make that script backwards, in other words make a script that turns all the label language names into the local names instead of user language. Stuck using AuthorityControl on a self-hosted wiki

Hi,

I'm attempting to use AuthorityControl.js on a self-hosted wikibase installation. However, I'm running into a problem and I can't really figure it out. I have begun debugging the code and I've seen that PROPERTIES is empty for me. It boils down to this section inside getProperties:

if ( entity.datatype === "external-id" && $.inArray( entity.id, specialHandlingProperties ) === -1 ) {
 // No need to format these
 return true;
}	

I don't understand why external ids are excluded? If we take this property for instance (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P5986) we can see that it has the datatype external-id, yet for instance https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2546006 where it is used, the URL gets property formatted for P5986.
