Using translated screenshots

In help pages I would like to replace the screenshots in English by their counterpart in the target language. For example, this screenshot should be replaced by this one for Catalan help page. Any advice on how to do it? Thanks in advance. Quico (talk) 14:17, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

If there isn't a standard naming scheme, that I suggest you add the file name to the content that is translated (this is unusual). For languages with their own images, "translate" the image name to the proper file for that language --DannyS712 (talk) 02:06, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

"Translating" the file name is indeed the easiest way. The problem is it is not possible for now because the file name is not inside the "translate" tags. It is possible to add it but I think some side effects may occur. Pamputt (talk) 07:28, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

@Qllach, DannyS712, Pamputt: Template:LM will allow you to translate a media to use with Translate. Report this template in an internal link and put the translate tags only for the link label, following:

respect the spaces and your image should be titled Wikibase Lexeme create a Lexeme 2018 ca.png
do the same for the other images, respecting the translation tags ().

Of course, you will have previously made a strictly identical screenshot (dimensions included) in your preferred language (also titled Blablabla ca.png) and deposited on Commons. How do I translate language name in item?

When I try to add the name of an item, I found out the language name is not translated. Is anyone know where I can translate this since neither translate extension nor CLDR provide translation. —VulpesVulpes825 (talk) 22:33, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

@VulpesVulpes825:, I am a little lost about your question, because the terms are not the same as the objects on Wikidata pages. The first thing to do is to select your preferred language at the top of the page. The display of the objects of a page will be mainly in this language. If an Item (Qxxxxxxx) does not have a translation in your language under Label, it means that the translation has not been made.

"language name" = 中文 or Français at the very top of the page next to your username
"name of an item" = Label in English or 标签 in Chinese

Which language ? What object precisely? Are you talking about the interface? Could you write your wish precisely, please? @Eihel:, sorry, it is extremely hard to describe the situation. The problem is, when you do a translation, the language label on the left side, is not translated. For example, the Chinese(China), Chinese(Taiwan), Chinese(Hong Kong) and so on only show in English. In short, some languages in the language column, which on the left side of label, is not been translated. I have checked the links and the only clues is to change it on CLDR, which do not have these language code listed. —VulpesVulpes825 (talk) 00:03, 17 February 2020 (UTC)

@VulpesVulpes825: For example, you would like "Chinese (Taiwan)" to appear "中文（台灣)" in the list of languages, next to Labels, when that language is selected in Preferences. So your question refers to the interface. You have to ask the development team. An identical question was asked by Ans here.

The information is contained in mediawiki/extensions Project:mediawiki/extensions/Wikibase. You would like the languages of "entitytermsforlanguagelistview" to appear identical to ULS (UniversalLanguageSelector). Translation tag help request for Wikidata Tours

Hi all

Over the past few months @NavinoEvans:, @Alicia Fagerving (WMSE): and myself have been working on fixing the bugs and completing many of the missing Wikidata Tours, we now have a pretty extensive set of new tours ready to go, with more almost ready... but we have an issue... the translation tags on the new version of the main tours page are really broken. Does anyone have experience in fixing mangled translation tags? I spent over an hour today trying to fix it but am still getting loads of errors.... Once we have this complete we can concentrate on new churning out new tours and make it much easier for new contributors to learn how to contribute to Wikidata.

The two jobs are:

Fix the existing translation tags
Explain on the talk page how to add new tags in a way that makes sense when we start adding additional tours

@John Cummings: I don’t see any broken translate tags on User:Alicia_Fagerving (WMSE)/Sand box, nor on any of the linked tours. By the way, one minor issue can cause all translate tags to appear on the page—this way it’s almost impossible to miss that the page is buggy; so “really broken” is the only possible imperfect state. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 10:43, 19 February 2020 (UTC)

I can't work out if all the text which should be translated is properly tagged

Also some tags are being used more than once, specifically:

Translation unit name 6 is used more than once.
Translation unit name 13 is used more than once.
Translation unit name 14 is used more than once.
Translation unit name 15 is used more than once.
Translation unit name 17 is used more than once.
Translation unit name 19 is used more than once.
Translation unit name 20 is used more than once.
Translation unit name 21 is used more than once.
Translation unit name 22 is used more than once.

@Eihel, John Cummings: Translation unit markers (<--T:xx--> comments) should not be added (or changed) manually unless you really know what you are doing; they are automatically assigned by the Translate extension. Any inappropriate changes to them may cause extra work for translators and make translations popping up at wrong places. I restored the old unit IDs and removed the manually added ones from new units. When you copy a text containing a translation unit, simply delete the unit ID where you paste it. (The old translation unit ID should be kept where the text doesn’t change, or changes less substantially.) The Translate extension will take care of assigning an appropriate ID to the new translation units. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 21:32, 19 February 2020 (UTC)
