Prepare for translation

Hey, Can someone prepare the Wikidata:Requests for checkuser/Header/text page for translation. I did to an extent I could, but I am no expert with it. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 14:59, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

I think that this discussion is resolved and can be archived. If you disagree, don't hesitate to replace this template with your comment. DannyS712 (talk) 15:41, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Added info about .ei/󢌂 (L300000) at Wikidata:News, need somebody with permissions to mark it for translation. Thanks! Adrijaned (talk) 20:24, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Please could someone mark Wikidata:How_to_create_Wikidata_Tours for translation

Hi all

Please could someone who is experienced mark Wikidata:How_to_create_Wikidata_Tours (including sub pages) for translation? There's quite a lot of formatting on the pages so I don't want to attempt it myself. Also the the table at the bottom of the first page probably doesn't need to be translated as that assumes all Tours are created in English first and then translated to other languages, also its likely to change very often.

Thanks very much

@Pamputt: and @Eihel: thanks so much for doing this. Could you explain what you decided about the table? I thought it would make sense to leave the table out of the translation to allow all languages to have their own tables, but whatever works best in your experience :) Thanks again. --John Cummings (talk) 16:26, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
@John Cummings: yes I thought also that letting the table as it would not be so bad because of the reasons you have given. Yet Eihel added the translate tags (I did not do it because it was a lot of work). At the end the choice is let tot the translators ; they can decide to translate it or not. Now, we have to find some translators ;-) Pamputt (talk) 16:45, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
@John Cummings: do you think you should move pages such as User:John Cummings/How to create Wikidata tours/proforma to Wikidata:How_to_create_Wikidata_Tours/proforma (or somthing similar). I think so but I prefer to get your opinion first. Pamputt (talk) 17:01, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
@Pamputt: thanks very much, I missed copying that page over, done, thanks very much for all your help with this. On another topic I noticed you're an administrator, could you take a look and create a property I proposed? It has 11 people supporting it and only 1 oppose (see note in comments, two opposes became supports) and seems like the discussion has wound down. --John Cummings (talk) 11:20, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
John Cummings Property ? —Eihel (talk) 14:06, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
Ah yes, it would probably help if I had said which property, its Wikidata:Property proposal/Included in curricula. Thanks, --John Cummings (talk) 14:30, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

  1. @John Cummings: Do you want me to remove the translation tags from the table? Doing the translations is not mandatory, but, at least, they exist. The table is already fully translated into nb and ja.
  3. @John Cummings: In the first page, I introduced an additional header: {{Chat header}}. Firstly, because it makes it more attractive with the frame of the table. Secondly, because the page title can be translated (see point 2 above). Wouldn't you prefer with the frame on each page? I look forward to reading from you. —Eihel (talk) 14:48, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi @Eihel: the reason I didn't use the frame is because it breaks Visual Editor which important for the pages for people to easily expand the instructions (especially when they are new). But now I'm trying it VE has stopped working on all pages, what happened and is it possible to fix? --John Cummings (talk) 15:40, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
John Cummings   Done (chat header removed; navigation header corrected; translation tags added; marked for translation) —Eihel (talk) 18:10, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi @Eihel:, thanks so much, but it looks like something is still broken for me. I click the Edit button (I have an Edit and an Edit Source button) then it loads the page, but when I try to edit a section of text it just loads a smaller box called 'translate' with wikicode inside... Any ideas how to fix it? --John Cummings (talk) 19:10, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
John Cummings With VE, you can only add content to places where there is no translation planned (such as for templates, links, etc.). Otherwise your modification is part of a translation. Have you ever encountered this case as a translation administrator? If that is problematic for you, you have to see that with the developers, I am of no help in this case. —Eihel (talk) 21:50, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

Template translation

I created a subtemplate for {{Tool2}} (used by the WD:Tool pages) and contains english parts. Please mark Template:Tool2/translate for translation. author  TomT0m / talk page 13:29, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

Wikidata:Tours translation is broken for some tours

Hi all

I've been creating several Wikidata Tours and adding them to Wikidata:Tours, however it looks like something is broken or missing for some tours. Under the name of each tour there is a little 'translate this tour' link. The Items tour translate link works fine, but for example the References tour loads some old notes I wrote for the tour a long time ago instead of the actual tour, could someone explain what the issue is and how to fix it?

Thanks very much

--John Cummings (talk) 19:16, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

@John Cummings: indeed. Now fixed. It was because the translate tags have not been added yet. If the same happens for other tours, it is probably the same reason. Pamputt (talk) 09:58, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks so much for fixing it @Pamputt: :) --John Cummings (talk) 22:29, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
