Wikidata:Wikimania 2019/submissions

Suggestions & ideas edit

What topics around Wikidata and Wikibase would you like to see presented at Wikimania? What sessions do you intend to submit? How could it fit in the accepted Spaces?

State of the project edit

Lydia and I will probably submit a session "state of Wikidata, future & strategy". We're not sure yet in which space this could fit. If anyone wants to help or participate, let me know :) Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 08:24, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lexicographical data edit

We would like to submit a session about the state of LexData on Wikidata, where we are, what are the cool things it can be used for, and what are the areas where people can help entering data. We would love to run this session together with community members, so if you're interested to co-facilitate this session, let me know! Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 08:24, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lea Lacroix (WMDE): Of course, I will be happy to join this session and deal with matters such as the representation of semitic languages, the use of available open source ontologies to enrich LexData, and the creation of bots that add IPAs to Wikidata lexemes. --Csisc (talk) 11:02, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Data quality edit

Anyone would like to talk about data quality? The dev team could present the steps that have been done over the next year and the plans for the future (improvement on constraints, shape expressions, signed statements, etc.) but we would love to have the point of view of people who edit, improve and reuse the data. I had a session on Linked Data Sweden see youtube / Github/salgo60/Wikidata-Sustainable-Knowledge-Graphs were I spoke about what happens when
  • We use SPARQL Federation and compare the NobelPrice.org with Wikidata --> we get +30 mismatches and Nobelprize.org has no sources. Can Wikidata trust Nobelprize.org?
  • Add a high quality source like Dictionary of Swedish National Biography ID (P3217) to Wikidata and its available as a source in articles on +200 languages. Challenge: How should we explain the quality of a source so also people reading Wikipedia with no familiarity with a source can get an understanding of the quality? Can we do it in a machine readable way?

@Lea Lacroix (WMDE): I'll talk about the data quality of bibliographic metadata items if that fits in with your plans? Have you already submitted a data quality session to which I can contribute? Simon Cobb (User:Sic19 ; talk page) 08:51, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Sic19:, we submitted two things so far: a poster and a talk. If you want to contribute, feel free to contact Lydia. Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 09:15, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wikibase ecosystem edit

We would like to present the ecosystem of organization using Wikibase, that grew up a lot over the past two years. If anyone is interested to run this session, let me know. Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 08:24, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Meetups &pink pony session edit

Of course we'll make sure that there is a Wikidata meetup and a Wikibase meetup :) We'll also run our traditional "pink pony session" where the Wikidata community can make some wishes and learn from each other about tools or cool projects. Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 08:24, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata in Medicine: What, why and how edit

I will propose a session about Wikidata in Medicine in which I present a detailed description of biomedical knowledge involved in Wikidata and how it can be enriched and used. I ask if someone would like to join this work. --Csisc (talk) 11:07, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
