Convert to identifier edit
As noted by Thierry Caro at Wikidata:Property proposal/Guggenheim fellows ID: This property was created as type string, but should be of type External identifier. I opened phab:T219699 to convert it. Multichill (talk) 09:36, 30 March 2019 (UTC)

Question about constraints edit
This may be the incorrect place to pose the question, but I wanted to ask why so many constraints (gender, date of birth, etc.) are placed on this property? The Guggenheim Fellows application page and Fellows' profile pages do not necessarily require/make this information public. Can we open a review for some of these constraints? Rolery02 (talk) 15:14, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- I agree with User:Rolery02. --Gerwoman (talk) 15:58, 10 November 2019 (UTC)
- The constraints are non-mandatory and most items comply with them. Even if there is a constraint, this doesn't prevent you from adding the identifier without adding other information. If you don't know some of these elements, an item for the person should probably not be created in the first place. --- Jura 19:44, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

- @Jura1: Place of birth is a requires statement constraint, which seems like overkill. I just did a query and 647 people who have this ID do not have that statement. Perhaps some of these should be re-evaluated as suggestions instead? I was in a conversation today, for example, where a person was disinclined to add the property to the person's entity because she could not find the person's place of birth and got the flag. But the person was certainly a fellow and had most other characteristics. I think it makes sense to have some like occupation as required. That's relevant to the award. The other is additional helpful knowledge and makes far more sense as recommendation. Ruthbrarian (talk) 19:51, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Ruthbrarian: agree, Wikidata:Database_reports/Constraint_violations/P6594#Item_P19 grew quite a bit. I made it a suggestion constraint. Multichill (talk) 22:26, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
- It seems to me like an irrelevant suggestion: sure, adding a place of birth to a person's item would be good, but that's the case whether or not they are a Guggenheim Fellow. We could add the same constraint to every property intended to be used on items for people. Ghouston (talk) 03:39, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

Question about description edit
Hello, the current description is
identifier for a person awarded a Guggenheim fellowship in the arts
However, the Wikipedia(en) text is
... who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts ...
The website itself has the text
... offers Fellowships to further the development of scholars and artists ...
Other than a very liberal reading of 'the arts' to mean 'scholarship,' shouldn't the description be changed to include the other reason for awarding the fellowship? Personally I have not changed the description as I am not sure how property descriptions work. Xenmorpha (talk) 12:21, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
Judith Marie Olsen edit
The entry that mentions a 2012 General Nonfiction fellow named Judith Marie Olsen is almost certainly inaccurate due to having the same given name and surname from two other 2012 fellows (Fiction fellow Lance Olsen's surname and General Nonfiction fellow Judith Pascoe's given name), and because I could not find relevant hits on Google Search, Google Books or VIAF that matched perfectly with such a person. ミラP@Miraclepine 19:45, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
