Duplicate of P31

This property appears to duplicate instance of (P31). --Izno (talk) 03:50, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

I'm not sure:

1. most of the stars is variable and the ontology of this classification is a very complicated tree (see en:Variable star). IMHO This property is a classification as spectral class (P215) with the difference that this property is item datatype, and P215 is string.
2. en:Template:Starbox character have a parameter "variable", that can be covered by this property.
3. It is a question of semantic: where do we stop P31? We can classify all with P31! Brad Pitt (Q35332) "is a" -> person, not "is a" -> actor" plus "is a" person with light hair" without use properties for job or colour of hair. The same: Delta Cephei (Q13024) "is a" -> "star", not "is a" -> " Cepheid variable" plus "is a" -> "G-type supergiant".

Other than that, I agree with Izno's point that instance of (P31) would fit the bill here. We tend to use instance of (P31) as long as there is a single, universal value. So Meredith Brooks (Q237952)instance of (P31)human (Q5), but not Meredith Brooks (Q237952)instance of (P31)mother (Q7560) because she's also a bunch of other things that are sort-of on the same level. --Matthias Winkelmann (talk) 21:55, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
