Merging items

edit

Hallo Iain Bell,

For merging items, you may want to use the merge.js gadget from help page about merging. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically place a request to delete the emptied page. This way of nominating makes it a lot easier for the admins to process the requests.

With regards,

some help tools

edit

Hi Iain Bell! You may add some help tools to user:Iain Bell/common.js . Please see User:Rotsaert8000 (in Esperanto), Wikidata:Tools, and Wikidata:Tools/User scripts. On the user:i18n-page you will see all WD gadget links. It takes time to see what fits most of your interests. Good luck gangLeri לערי ריינהארט (talk) 19:20, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Merging items

I see you've requested the deletion of many duplicate items. Per this request for comment, duplicated items should no longer be deleted. Instead, you can use the Merge.js tool, which you can enable in your preferences, to redirect them. Regards, George Edward CTalkContributions 15:53, 8 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Local railway memorial Bad Ischl

edit

Hi Iain, you did some modifications to Bad Ischl railway memorial (Q123181933) which I disaggree. From my point of view, the whole thing (locomotive, waggons, roof etc) is a memorial for the former local railway. The locomotive is a part of this memorial, you may give the locomotive an owm item (Q number) but it is not the same as the whole memorial. Please revert your changes. -- Gerd Fahrenhorst (talk) 18:29, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Done. However, the instance of (P31) preserved steam locomotive (Q27955408) claim is not normal, the standard is to use has characteristic (P1552). In this case would has part(s) of the class (P2670) be more appropriate? Regards – Iain Bell (talk) 19:32, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I now have made a new item ÖBB 698.01 (Q124882213) for the locomotive and modified the memorial; please check. Gerd Fahrenhorst (talk) 09:25, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay, you have added some infos, fine. I do not understand why preserved steam locomotive (Q27955408) is a subclass of preserved locomotive (Q27955407) because I think that not every preserved locomotive is in a museum, so Q27955407 should be a subclass of Q27955408 ?! And when reading the ÖBB 698.01 (Q124882213) item I do more see that it is public viewable (museum) ?! Gerd Fahrenhorst (talk) 12:54, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
When I created Q27955407, I only wrote the English label “preserved locomotive” and description. I was intending it to include locomotives displayed on their own in a park or as a monument, or in a museum, or on a heritage railway. Someone else has added the German label “Museumslokomotive” when perhaps “erhaltene Lokomotive” would have been better. Unfortunately the error has been translated into fi/ru/sv (and perhaps also into sl/ko).
preserved locomotive (Q27955407), is parent to preserved diesel locomotive (Q29996089) and preserved electric locomotive (Q56421785) as well as preserved steam locomotive (Q27955408). Hope this helps. – Iain Bell (talk) 17:40, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
