Pinging the taxonomistsEdit

Hello Margaret! Pinging the whole Wikidata taxonomy group can be done by adding the code string {{Ping project|Taxonomy}} to a message. Kind regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 12:36, 30 July 2019 (UTC).

Thanks @Tommy Kronkvist: MargaretRDonald (talk) 22:37, 30 July 2019 (UTC)

My watchlist has lit up with your contributions - it looks like you got it working well. Congrats. --99of9 (talk) 09:00, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

@99of9: I had been going to thank you, when it was all complete.. It is wonderful to now know (partially) how to use quick statements.... I am still trying to get the whole batch up but so far have not been successful in my efforts. And you will be interested to know that some of the Australian botanist abbreviations used by APNI have not yet found their way into IPNI as author records, So I have to do some hunting to do to get them into wikidata as something more than just initials, surname and author abbreviation. (Miles more work to do just to complete this simple task.) Thanks, so much, Toby. Just fabulous. MargaretRDonald (talk) 18:39, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi! I observed you do not use ex taxon author (P697) in a correct way. Last example. APNI gives this correct as "R.Br. ex Hook. (1843)". Regards. --Succu (talk) 06:31, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks @Succu: for letting me know. (That gives me a bit of work to do, correcting them.) But I do have code which I will modify to make the corrections..... MargaretRDonald (talk) 06:55, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
Hi @Succu:. On the ex author front, I have corrected the error you noted but so far only for binomials with APNI ids. MargaretRDonald (talk) 12:20, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
OK. Thx! --Succu (talk) 13:57, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

Something went wrongEdit

Hi! Please see here. Probably there are more mistakes. Look at this report. --Succu (talk) 06:26, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

Something did indeed go wrong. Thank you for both of these, @Succu:. I am working through the list of violations of Plant List, but have not yet finished. However, I have not yet had a chance to look at how I managed to do this. Thanks again for your help. MargaretRDonald (talk) 11:09, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
Have worked out what the problem was... But I will need to correct the observed errors by hand. MargaretRDonald (talk) 12:16, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
Hi @Succu: I have now corrected (I think) by hand those errors of the kind: * gcc-100314: Athanasia quinquedentata (Q15588519), Athanasia quinquedentata subsp. rigens (Q66091337), Athanasia quinquedentata subsp. quinquedentata (Q81933001) of which there were 119. Some "duplicate" names (and not quite duplicate names) I left. Please update me with the next report as I may not have managed to catch them all. MargaretRDonald (talk) 21:29, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

Q87135173 has an invalid ORCID iD, and no other data, so I nominated it for deletion. Then I noticed that you created it and it has your own name... Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:43, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

@Pigsonthewing: Yes, I added it in the spirit of wikicite to add an author rather than an author string to various papers. Happy to have it deleted howerver. I actually thought I had added several other ids. The orcid id is mine and was used but not findable since I now have no institutional email... ) MargaretRDonald (talk) 10:50, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
You added them to Q61657080, which the newer item duplcates; I've merged them. You may wish to add your Wikimedia user name. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:07, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the merge, @Pigsonthewing:. I have been trying to start to use Scholia. Didn't realise I had managed to achieve this!! MargaretRDonald (talk) 11:14, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
Hi @Pigsonthewing: There are several wikidata items that I have managed unwittingly to create and would dearly like to delete. How do I propose an item for deletion (or delete an item) for example Q89663481? Thanks for your help. MargaretRDonald (talk) 20:34, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
List them at Wikidata:Requests for deletions; to do this easily, add the "RequestDeletion" script, under preferences/ gadgets. However, if they are duplicates, merge them instead. Shout if you need help. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:18, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks immensely Andy. @Pigsonthewing: Now done. MargaretRDonald (talk) 02:40, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Interview InvitationEdit

Hi MargaretRDonald,

I noticed your editing stats in Wikidata, which led me to look up your profile. Thank you for all the great work!

I’m reaching out to you because I’m working on a research project about understanding what motivates editors like you to contribute to Wikidata. We’re also interested in learning about how you feel your contributions are being used outside of Wikidata. Since you are such an active community member, I thought you might also be interested in helping to build the broader community’s knowledge about Wikidata, and why it matters.

If you’re interested, let’s schedule a time to talk over Zoom, or whichever platform you prefer. If you are interested, please fill in a questionnaire. The conversation should take about 30 min.

Hope you have a great day,

Chuankaz (talk) 04:33, 7 July 2020 (UTC)

To add a source you do not need to remove existing statements. Once a statement to add is found, a source will be added to the existing item.--GZWDer (talk) 00:41, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, @GZWDer: Unfortunately, I had done a series of quick statements which added basionyms and " stated in" as a qualifier and not as a source, and hence had to delete my newly created basionym item. MargaretRDonald (talk) 00:55, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
See also [1] if you want to revert your previous edit.--GZWDer (talk) 00:57, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks @GZWDer: I have now reverted a couple of edits. However, in this case it was a bit messy trying to do that... and was simpler and was a way which would capture all previous errors to resubmit with a corrected complete spreadsheet. MargaretRDonald (talk) 01:38, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

ATRF ID editsEdit

Hi Margaret, this EditGroup seems to be adding duplicate taxon names to taxa rather than the ATRF ID which it claims to be. Can you have a look? --Canley (talk) 02:32, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

Thanks @Canley: I thought it had a "do not override" bit in it. Which I hoped meant that if found something was not touched. Damn it all. Some work to do. MargaretRDonald (talk) 02:36, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
You might be able to ask an admin to undo the group. Let me know if you have any issues and I can try to clean it up in QuickStatements or something. --Canley (talk) 02:41, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
Hi@Canley: I am currently checking them all by hand, which is not the major task it might seem to be. If I can't fix it, I'll give a call for help. MargaretRDonald (talk) 02:52, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
Hi@Canley: Hmm... Problem much greater than I thought. There were 2861 edits of which some (of the order of <100) were new items. But I think the best thing would be to destroy the edit globally and destroy any hand edits I have done since to attempt to rectify the matter. So yes, pull in an admin... Cheers, MargaretRDonald (talk) 03:02, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
OK, I've requested a rollback at Wikidata:Requests for deletions#Edit group OR/14b3a99cec7. --Canley (talk) 03:13, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
