Condense consecutive edits

Even now, many bots are not taking advantage of the powerful wbeditentity API. So we have unreadable histories like [1]. The Wikibase extension should provide a setting to show multiple edits by bots as single ones. --Ricordisamoa 12:07, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

The solution is to make the history more readable imho. That is on my list but apparently not trivial. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 13:42, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

sitefilter parameter throws an exception

I'm trying to filter sitelinks from a wbgetentities action but it throws an exception. Here is an example URL: http://www.wikidata.org/w/api.php?action=wbgetentities&sites=enwiki&titles=Defender+%28association+football%29&format=xml&sitefilter=ruwiki which works fine if the sitefilter parameter is removed. Elfalem (talk) 06:02, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

It works also with format=json https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:ApiSandbox#action=wbgetentities&format=json&sites=enwiki&titles=Defender%20(association%20football)&sitefilter=ruwiki --JulesWinnfield-hu (talk) 07:45, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks! Elfalem (talk) 17:29, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Set a calendar style (Julian/Gregorian)

A user from ru-wiki asked me how (if possible) to set a calendar style (Julian/Gregorian) for birth and death dates. Say set Julian for this person (the original question). --NeoLexx (talk) 09:23, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

See also #Switching to Julian calendar looks broken. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:59, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

Empty diffs

What do they mean: [2], [3]? Infovarius (talk) 10:31, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Ok we just investigated this for 30 minutes and it doesn't make any sense. I've filed bugzilla:65806 to look into it further. Thanks for poking about it. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 13:28, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem adding links to articles in other languages. I can't click to add links on the article page, and if I get to the wikidata page for the links, it won't accept the saved data (I can add the language and the title of the article, but it won't accept it). I've tried using both Firefox and IE. Oaktree b (talk) 02:00, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks! We're looking into it at the moment. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 09:34, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Can't add "no value" or "unknown value" in French...

When I'm logged in French, I can't add "valeur inconnue" (unknown value) or "aucune valeur" (no value) in qualifiers, while it's OK in English. I have this issue with Firefox and Safari. — Ayack (talk) 15:35, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Bah. Same in German. I've filed bugzilla:66626. Thanks! --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 21:35, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Can't change rank only

I can't change the rank of a statement without editing its value. The [save] button just stays gray if I only edit the rank. --Pasleim (talk) 18:15, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

It works for me here in Chrome with Vector skin. Which browser and skin are you using? That could help track it down. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 21:36, 14 June 2014 (UTC)
I'm using Vector skin with Firefox v29. --Pasleim (talk) 22:19, 14 June 2014 (UTC)
Ok I can reproduce it in Firefox as well. I've filed bugzilla:66633 for it. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 09:59, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

Value "none"

I can't add original language of film or TV show (P364)="None" to The Magician (Q742305) and other items. Special value changes but it cannot be saved. --Infovarius (talk) 14:29, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

That's bugzilla:66626. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 15:10, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

Adding references

I've tried to add stated in (P248) = Dictionary of British and Irish Botanists and Horticulturists (Q17233260) and page(s) (P304) = 115–116 as a reference for date of birth (P569) in William Bull (Q6167579), but the save button remains deactivated. I'm working under de/vector/IE 11.0.9/Win7+SP1. Same with Firefox 29.0.1. --Succu (talk) 15:13, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

I could not reproduce this but I found another one: bugzilla: 66748. Can anyone else reproduce the other issue? --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 11:44, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Strange. Today I have no problems. --Succu (talk) 13:43, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

I'm not a developper, so maybe I don't realize the complexity of maintaining the code of Wikidata, but as a user, I really don't understand why many gadgets are broken every month. Could you have a look at it please? — Ayack (talk) 09:03, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

We're looking into it. We also have a task in the current development sprint to write tests for the default gadgets to prevent it in the future. Sorry for the breakage :/ --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 11:46, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. — Ayack (talk) 12:21, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
It has been fixed again. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 17:45, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! — Ayack (talk) 08:28, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

Why we got this summary: Added link with badges to [kawiki]? Special:Diff/138740179 --JulesWinnfield-hu (talk) 20:52, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

We had fixed this... Apparently it broke again. I am reopening bugzilla:62546. Thanks for the poke. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 17:48, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

Translations not showing up

The German translation at Monte Carlo Particle Number (P1360) is not showing up for me, when viewing the page in English. Just in the diff and the Labellister gadget. -Tobias1984 (talk) 14:49, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

A purge of the page was needed. Now it shows up. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 17:48, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
It seems only one link per article is enabled. Links to paragraphs or to redirect pages return "problem linking this page already used by xxxx" e.g. en:Walkability to es:Peatón#Caminabilidad or to REDIRECT# es:Caminabilidad This is desirable as in some areas, translations are partial or of minor relevance which do not merit a whole article ¿? Timpo (talk) 12:07, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
We do not allow linking to sections of articles. Sorry. This can't be done as one item in Wikidata always needs to represent one concept and one page can only be linked in one item. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 12:52, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

Lenght of url Property

I must add an URL that have more of 500 characters, in a property. There is some solution? --ValterVB (talk) 13:16, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

We might be able to raise the length constraint to a higher number. How many characters do you need? And is this only for a single data point? --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 16:34, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
I think 550 char, this is the link I need to source sexual orientation (P91) in Christopher Cox (Q262293) --ValterVB (talk) 17:11, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Why not simply http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/latimes/doc/282194029.html? --JulesWinnfield-hu (talk) 17:50, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
I have copied and pasted from en.wiki and I haben't checked. Thannks. --ValterVB (talk) 19:14, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Excellent :D We'll keep it at 500 then :) --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 19:22, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Some months ago I had to shorten one or two lengthly P357 (P357). I was forced to add „…“ to indicate the title is a little bit longer. Unfortunately I can't remember which items are involved. --Succu (talk) 20:10, 18 June 2014 (UTC) PS: Found one: The Gardeners Dictionary. (8th edition) (Q14640734). It was P392 (P392). --Succu (talk) 12:09, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
Hmm this seems way too long for a subtitle to me. Is this really the subtitle of the book? I am quite hesitant to extend string as that will allow to store text of a length that really shouldn't go into Wikidata. I mean we can extend it by a few characters of course but we should think really hard if this is really needed and doesn't cause us more issues instead. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 13:04, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
Yes it is ([4]). The full subtitle is 83 characters above the current string limit. But I see no urgent need to increase this limit. --Succu (talk) 18:26, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
Hah ok. *shake head at authors/publishers*... :P Thanks! Anyway if a really pressing case comes up where a longer field will be needed let's discuss again and evaluate. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 07:01, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Wikinews

Any plan for enable sitelinks to Wikinews?--GZWDer (talk) 05:01, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

I have not made the plans yet but thanks for the reminder. Should do soonish and announce. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 12:52, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
