AllMusic Genre/Style ID edit

Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Creative work

Motivation edit

Note that the terms style, genre and theme can be used interchangeably on AllMusic:

 https://www.allmusic.com/style/ma0000002674
 https://www.allmusic.com/genre/ma0000002674
 https://www.allmusic.com/theme/ma0000002674

will display the same genre/style/theme. --Shisma (talk) 18:26, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Comment Is it really the case that AllMusic treats "theme" the same as "genre/style" ? They seem to be separate concepts even if they share the same identifier format. See Pool Party as an example Moebeus (talk) 03:30, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Support, but I think this should be called AllMusic Genre/Style ID, which is much simpler. You get to the top list of genres from https://www.allmusic.com/genres, but then the subgenres and styles are linked on the site with URLs starting with https://www.allmusic.com/style/. In response to Moebeus, some of the themes linked to from https://www.allmusic.com/themes could be considered genres or forms, for example background music, exercise/workout, and wedding. Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms (LCGFT) has a term for each of these: Background music, Exercise music, and Wedding music. But I agree that most of them would not fit under genre or style. UWashPrincipalCataloger I thought of it more as the name of the proposal, not the name of the property. I'll change it --Shisma (talk) 17:46, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if "theme" is to be included? Lymantria (talk) 20:46, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Done as AllMusic genre/style ID (P9185)   WikiProject Music has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. Please post on the WikiProject's talk page instead. @Shisma, Trade, Moebeus, Lymantria: UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 08:32, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
