Motivation edit
The Archives Directory for the History of Collecting in America is a scholarly database containing information about "American art collectors, dealers, agents and advisors, and the repositories that hold these records" managed by the Center for the History of Collecting (Q20745457) at the The Frick Collection (Q682827). It could serve as an external resource for these item types and fills in gaps of other similar external identifiers such as Union List of Artist Names (Q2494649). - @Premeditated: Although the copyright notice is for the parent domain and not the particular resource in question here, even if the database was itself under copyright, I'm not aware of any Wikidata guidelines or restrictions that would impose restrictions on linking out to a copyrighted external resource, and there are other examples of existing identifiers that do so, i.e. JSTOR article ID (P888), Benezit ID (P2843), Christie's creator ID (P4200), et al. Additionally, given Wikidata intends to represent facts, and I would consider the statement that a particular item has a particular identifier to be a fact, and facts are not covered by copyright (at least in the United States), I am not seeing how copyright issues would apply to adding an external identifier property. Is there a particular Wikidata guideline you are thinking of that you could point me to that addresses this topic? Infopetal (talk) 17:40, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
