Motivation edit

I've noticed that Wikidata is completely lacking electornic sports-related external identifiers. I suggest to start with Esports Earnings, a large e-sports database that is not limited to a single discipline. That would help us to add basic claims like «instance of (P31) = esports discipline (Q112144412)», link players with disciplines, and prepare the ground for future data imports.

See also: Esports Earnings player ID (there are also possible identifiers for teams, tournaments and tournament leagues, we might want to add them too in the future). Facenapalm (talk) 16:42, 27 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Wvdp, I saw you creating e-sports related items a while ago, so you might be interested in these proposals and Liquipedia ID proposal. Facenapalm (talk) 17:09, 27 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion edit

Question Does this mean that each video game (Q7889) that has a "esports scene" will have its own esports discipline (Q112144412) with an Esports Earnings game ID? If that's the case, then having "game" in the property's name might be confusing, as I would expect this identifier to apply to video game (Q7889). Might just be me though. --Poslovitch (talk) 19:58, 27 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Poslovitch, no, these games would just have a second P31, see Dota 2 (Q771541) or Starcraft II (Q18142874) as an example. I don't think it is worth to duplicate items, at least at this point. It would be much easier to import data from Wikipedias that way, because Wikipedias are linking pro gamers with the games themselves, not StarCraft II in esports (Q60742209) or anything.
I actually just created esports discipline (Q112144412) today, before that some games had three P31s: video game (Q7889), esports (Q300920) and sports discipline (Q2312410) (example), but I found it a bit unreadable and misleading. Facenapalm (talk) 20:11, 27 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Although if you think that "Esports Earnings discipline ID" is more suitable label, I don't mind that. I picked the shortest label out of possible ones, but I'm fine any way. Facenapalm (talk) 20:17, 27 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, if this is just another instance of (P31), then I'm fine with keeping "game" in the ID. Also, that's a good thing that esports discipline (Q112144412) is going to "simplify" esports (Q300920) and sports discipline (Q2312410). Poslovitch (talk) 20:39, 27 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
