Motivation
editThe academic major (P812) (or minor) refers to an academic discipline (Q11862829) and not to a position (Q4164871) or activity (Q1914636). position held (P39) does not cover the period of apprenticeship: that is why I think the property:field of training would not be redundant. Discussion
edit- Support David (talk) 07:01, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
- Weak oppose. I think that widening student (P802) would be a more economic solution. Nomen ad hoc (talk) 17:03, 12 December 2019 (UTC).
- student (P802) takes as values the students of the subject; it does not overlap with the proposed use case. However, other properties do. Swpb (talk) 16:27, 27 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Nomen ad hoc: see Swpb's comment. --- Jura 16:31, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose in favor of expanding one of the "see also" properties that are already close in meaning; academic major (P812) is probably closest. Swpb (talk) 16:27, 27 December 2019 (UTC)
- Support - I think that other similar properties, including academic major (P812) and student (P802), are too restrictive and only consider formal educational settings to be the source of training. I think there could be a use for this one, though I would be concerned with duplicating information that is usually contained elsewhere. -- Ajraddatz (talk) 15:18, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
- This property makes sense as a qualifier for the property "educated at" Germartin1 (talk) 20:04, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
- Support as a qualifier Germartin1 (talk) 14:40, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
- It seems we miss something for what can't be capture with academic major (P812) --- Jura 16:28, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
- Comment Widening academic major (P812) makes sense to me on the understanding that one person generally will have only one value for this (in rare cases more), so whether the training is academic or apprentice-like it's presumably the form of training traditional for the subject and unlikely to lead to any confusion. - Support good for an addition Nepalicoi (talk) 18:24, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Support I think student (P802) should stay with it's contraint for being target on human (Q5) fields are very different then people. academic major (P812) is a well defined term and I don't want to make that property less clear by broadening it. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 09:46, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
