Description	the maximum sustainable force with which this vehicle can pull or push another object. Alternatively for road- or track-vehicles, the maximum weight of an object on wheels that this vehicle can reliably and safely pull given usual slopes.

Motivation edit

Towing capacity is a relevant metric for trucks and some databases are available (e.g towcar.info, towratings.netand towingcap.com). It would make sense to be able to encode that kind of information on Wikidata. TiagoLubiana (talk) 14:06, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see the need to express something like this, but there's no reason to limit it to wheeled vehicles. Also since the towing capacity is essentially a measure of force, I suspect it can be handled by a properly qualified force (P5708) statement. For tugboats there is bollard pull (Q1751425), for locomotives there is tractive effort (Q16969280) and for trucks there is towing capacity (Q116697914). If the property doesn't have examples for these, they should be added. Alternatively if a new property is deemed the intuitive/pragmatic choice, then it should cover all vessel types, I can definitely see that using 'force' is not immediately obvious, although this can be remedied somewhat by adding aliases to 'force'. Comment While I still think it is an useful property, my interest on vehicle descriptions has waned a bit in the past 6 months, so I am not probably to filling up items with the values extensively.
