This is some notes on the data model for elections. There are three aspects here:
- items for an individual politician having claims to describe their candidacies
- items for a specific electoral contest (a by-election or a single constituency in a general election)
- items for a general election with overall results
For the time being, we are aiming to describe #1, #3, and only by-elections from #2; items for individual constituency contests at general elections may follow later.
Data model - candidacies edit
An item should have a candidacy in election (P3602) statement for each candidacy, with the general election or by-election set as the value and qualifiers:
- electoral district (P768) - a separate statement for each seat contested)
- represents (P1268) - for declared party affiliation - this may be changed in future for consistency with other party data
- votes received (P1111) - straight count of votes received per source
- results (P2501) - elected, defeated
- ranking (P1352) - rank in the list of results
Current status edit
- Data from UK House of Commons Election Results at Constituency Level (Q115691306) (v5) imported for February 1974 onwards, only for winning MPs.
- Vote count and party mismatches will need to be manually checked
- Data 1950-1970 prepared for import but will need to be updated to v6
- Pre-1950 data will need reworking of the code
- Not yet imported
