Merging items

Hallo P199,

If you were not already using it, you may want to check out the merge.js gadget for merging items. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically nominate the page you are merging from for deletion. This way of nominating also makes it easier for the admins to process such requests. For support and other options you can check the help page about merging.

Ranking changes

Hello. PreferentiaBot hasn't updated the ranking of the population of the PH cities and towns just yet. Just to inform I am changing the rankings of old population figures from deprecated to normal, and the new ones to preferred, after asking for advice from the Help page. Thanks. PSGC reference item for each province?

I am thinking of an easier way to add a reference that doesn't rely on the URL as the reference, especially for the area of the cities and towns. Like in Tayum (Q29139), the reference URL

http://www.nscb.gov.ph/activestats/psgc/province.asp?provcode=140100000

seems dead/broken, and the new/functional one is

http://nap.psa.gov.ph/activestats/psgc/province.asp?provCode=140100000

We can update the URLs for each town painstakingly or we can just create items to be used as references for each province/region like Philippine Standard Geographic Code: Abra for example, to be used with the property Stated in. If the PSA changes the URLs in the future, we can just change the reference URLs within the PSGC province item to reduce the workload. Will it be a good idea? Ranking

Hi, just note that the population of 2016 sould be the prefered ranking, and not the population of the census of 2011 as obselete. It's explained here. obselete ranking is more for the municipality who the population was corrected for the population of 2011, like Saint-Zénon (Q3463536). --Fralambert (talk) 22:38, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, the name "obselete" is not realy intuitive. I made this error myself when i was beginning to use raking for the Quebec cultural heritage (Q3370013), like when a property was reclassified. --Fralambert (talk) 00:43, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

Re [1], the correct Commons category is in the sitelinks, Commons category (P373) is just unnecessary duplication. There are bots/people running QuickStatements that add it back if it's really needed, and that's more efficient manual copy-paste. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 20:13, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

water area (Q2507626) is a geographical object. coastal water body (Q16615865) on the other hand is a administrative territorial entity (Q56061), a subentity of river basin district (Q132017). They are both implementations of the Water Framework Directive (Q1462895). /ℇsquilo 16:36, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

Pipestone River (Q15124871)

The official source 52° 06′ 10.58″ N 91° 46′ 40.30″ W is indicated here[2]. There is also the most distant source 52° 01′ 42.47″ N 91° 58′ 47.95″ W and the highest source 52° 02′ 49.30″ N 91° 51′ 27.84″ W but those are a my original search. Yanik ^B 14:24, 24 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi @YanikB: thanks for your feedback. I had seen the CGNDB source already, but that should not be taken as absolute. I can't help but notice that the highlighted part of a river often stops at some arbitrary point. I strongly doubt that it should be taken as the "official" source of a river, especially since, as you point out, it is not the most distant point. --P199 (talk) 14:44, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
