Merging items

Hallo Robby,

For merging items, you may want to use the merge.js gadget from help page about merging. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically place a request to delete the emptied page. This way of nominating makes it a lot easier for the admins to process the requests.

Invitation to Wikidata user study

Dear Robby,
I am a researcher of the Web and Internet Science group of the University of Southampton.
Together with a group of other researchers from the same University, we are currently conducting a research aiming to discover how newcomers become full participants into the Wikidata community. We are interested in understanding how the usage of tools, the relationships with the community, and the knowledge and application of policy norms change from users' first approach to Wikidata to their full integration as fully active participants.
This study will take place as an interview, either by videotelephony, e.g. Skype, phone, or e-mail, according to the preference of the interviewees. The time required to answer all the questions will likely be about an hour. Further information can be found on the Research Project Page Becoming Wikidatians: evolution of participation in a collaborative structured knowledge base.
Any data collected will be treated in the strictest confidentiality, no personal information will be processed for the purpose of the research. The study, which has submission number 20117, has received ethical approval following the University of Southampton guidelines.
We aim at gathering about 20 participants, chosen among experienced Wikidata users who authored a large number of contributions.

Merge

Moin moin,

ich habe gesehen, dass du Q105393629 und Sant Andreu Jazz Band (Q13415262) zusammengeführt hast. Dabei wurde Vandalismus auf Q13415262 verdeckt. Ich habe das Problem nur deshalb erkannt, weil die IP ein bekannter Vandale ist. Ansonsten kann es passieren das Vandalismus, der durch einen Merge verdeckt wird über längere Zeit besteht. Kannst du deshalb bitte in Zukunft die Versionsgeschichte beider Items kurz auf Vandalismus überprüfen, bevor du einen Merge durchführst? Das würde die Vandalismusbekämpfung sehr erleichtern.

BDFA

Hello, The data contained on BDFA are highly incomplete, please stop adding these pages without any discernment. Football Lab (talk) 18:53, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

From my point of view the data being incomplete is no reason to stop adding such data. Wrong data would be a reason to do so. I would be very pleased if on the example of https://bdfa.com.ar/jugadores-74511.html you would explain to me what is wrong to link it with Q776447. Is it not the same person? this would indeed be a valuable reason to delete the link here on wikidata.

The data on the BDFA link are not only incomplete, they are wrong : Do Marcolino did not play with Angoulême from 2002 to 2004 but from 2002 to 2003, and he also played for Rennes from 2003 until 2004. Also, he did not play for Gabon from 2008 until 2010 but from 2004 until 2013, and not 7 times but 25.

I found many other errors on names, for example :

• This player's name is not Antonhy Gonçalvez but Anthony Gonçalves.
• This player's name is not Oman-Biyik but Omam-Biyik.
• This player's first name not Dramame but Dramane.
• This player's first name is not Matthiew but Mathieu.
• This player's first name is not Miograd but Miodrag.
• This player's name is not Bourgerois but Bourgeois.
• This player's first name is not Nurdi but Nordi.

More than 10% of players contain errors on names, clearly this website is not serious.

At the end of the day it is not the links that you criticize just my edits. If you consider the site BDFA as not serious than you should go and start a request to get a deletion of Property:P6188 otherwise there will be continuously edits like mine here on Wikidata. This can best be done on Wikidata:Properties_for_deletion.

Any other ways of proceeding will sooner or later have as an effect to get the links to the BDFA database be added again here on wikidata. Robby (talk) 05:53, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

Another (eventually better possibility) then deleting here on wikidata all the links to BDFA website might be for any specific player where BDFA contains erroneous data to change the rank inside the statement on the considered wikidata element from 'normal rank' to 'deprecated rank' Robby (talk) 06:16, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

Merged item

Hi do you mind if I ask why you merged postage "stamps by country (item Q122190727)", with "Category:Postage stamps by country (item Q9087228)? They clearly different concepts. "stamps by country (item Q122190727)" was a sub-class of other items that allowed for other "postage stamps by country" items to be classes of it instead of them not being connected to anything. And there can't be items for postage stamps of a particular country just for "categories" because they are unique concepts with starting dates and other information. So can you separate the items again and restore things back to how they were please? Otherwise I'll just do it myself, but you really shouldn't have merged them to begin with. So I think you should be the one to fix the issue. I tried to just revert your edit, but apparently that doesn't restore the original item that was merged. Thanks.
