parent taxon (P171) edit

is for taxa, not ranks. I reverted your edits. --Succu (talk) 21:19, 3 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Should there be a new property such as parent rank (instead of P171)? Property part of (P361) does not seem to be precise.

--Zhenqinli (talk) 21:30, 3 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

A general concept parent rank did not exist. This Code and/or database dependent. --Succu (talk) 21:36, 3 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

SLiuBot edit

Hi. Actually the bot hasn't been operated for quite a while. But the task seems fairly straightforward. Here is a query to find all such instances. But it seems that wrong labels could be added. The first result I got is Q70045, which is about Angela Merkel's father, but the corresponding category is about Angela Merkel herself. I'm not sure how to avoid those wrong results. Kind regards, --Stevenliuyi (talk) 05:05, 21 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

I think adding an additional condition (such as the English label of the item matches that of the category, minus "Category:") would work. But such query might be difficult to construct, and would be time-consuming to run against the whole wikidata. --Zhenqinli (talk) 11:23, 21 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that could work. It may be a little more complicated, but perhaps not too much trouble. I'll see what I can do. --Stevenliuyi (talk) 18:32, 21 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

described by source (P1343)Baidu Baike (Q803722) edit

Have you ever read what Wikidata:Property proposal/Baidu Baike ID? That's a violation site of WMF terms of use, and linking that can violate WMF rules and subject to WMF global ban! --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 10:57, 24 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Translation request edit

Hello.

Can you create and upload en:Category:Elections in Azerbaijan, en:Category:Presidential elections in Azerbaijan, en:Category:Azerbaijan election result templates (and if it is not too demanding en:Elections in Azerbaijan) in Chinese Wikipedia?

zh:Template:阿塞拜疆選舉 with its articles already exists in Chinese Wikipedia.

HKCAN ID (P5909) edit

Dear Sir,

I am the developer of the JULAC HKCAN Linked Data Service.

I tried to revise the "formatter URL" in the HKCAN ID property page (P5909) a few days ago (and now), but failed. Error message was: "Could not save due to an error. The save has failed."

I think it is because I do not have the right to do so.

I see that you have helped adding the correct formatter URL to the page, i.e. http://hkcan.julac.org/authorities/names/$1

Could you also please help to remove (or depreciate) the other two formatter URLs in the page, as they are no longer valid? Now clicking on the HKCAN ID in Q items does not redirect to the correct hkcan.julac.org URL. For example, clicking the HKCAN ID 9811104639003406 in http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q701855 should go to: http://hkcan.julac.org/authorities/names/9811104639003406, but it is not now.

HKCAN was migrated to a Linked Open Data capable platform in late 2018/early 2019. The persons (I think they are not from JULAC HKCAN team) who initiated the proposal/setup of this Property back in Sept 2018 did not aware of the migration project and they used the old obsolete IDs and URLs. They also tried to import the IDs to Wikidata but I think they failed to complete it. Do you have any advise how I can pick up this task?

Thank you in advance for help. (I am pretty new to Wikidata content updating).

Best regards, LamKiTat

Would you like to contribute to a WikiProject Covid-19 ? edit

Hello,

I saw that you contribued to the item COVID-19 pandemic by country and territory (Q83741704) and I was wondering if you would be interested in helping to create a WikiProject Covid-19.

The goals would be initially (of course, they can be changed):

  • create a data model for instances of disease outbreak (Q3241045).
  • monitor the quality of the pages about national outbreaks listed in COVID-19 pandemic by country and territory (Q83741704).
  • curate the wikidata items relevant for describing the outbreaks and the virus itself.
  • curate and improve the information on Wikidata about scientific articles regarding the coronavirus (similar to the Wikidata:WikiProject_Zika_Corpus).
  • think and develop ways to process these items to improve access to information (for example, via automated articles in languages that currently do not have pages about country-specific outbreaks).

Would you like to participate in this effort? I am trying to gather the Wikidata editors actively envolved in the topic.I believe that if we act together, we can have a shot at aiding the global effort in containing the pandemic.

TiagoLubiana (talk) 00:11, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sure, thanks for your invitation. I would like to contribute or help if possible, though perhaps with limited amount of available time due to other commitments. Please keep me in the loop for the relevant discussion. You may also contact other wikidata users (e.g. User:Daniel_Mietchen & User:Neo-Jay ) who are more knowledgeable or active. Thanks and best, --Zhenqinli (talk) 00:35, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

TMPRSS2 is not a receptor edit

Hello, TMPRSS2 is a protease. Maybe you should read a bit about both classes of proteins?

The difference relevant to SARS-Cov-2 is that a membrane receptor sticks to the membrane and just functions as a docking port for the virus, while proteases usually are in solution and this one cleaves the viral Spike protein, a crucial step preparing the actual entry. BTW we also have all papers from PubMed as article items so it would be better to directly link to the items instead of giving an URL. Thanks. --SCIdude (talk) 07:59, 30 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

subclass of (P279) edit

The definition of P279 says "all instances of these items are instances of those items". Not all deformation (Q193514) are disruption (Q2956685). Putting a staple into a stack of paper deforms the staple, but no process is being disrupted. Swpb (talk) 13:46, 25 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

2022-06-10 edit

--Zhenqinli (talk) 19:44, 10 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
--Zhenqinli (talk) 07:28, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Fishery and fisheries edit

I am trying to separate the concept of fishery (the industry) from fisheries (the sites where it takes place). Edits like this [1] are counterproductive. Swpb (talk) 14:23, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment edit

Dear Zhenqinli,

I hope you are doing well,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I am working on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender model that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our model based on your previous edits.

Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published in a research venue.

The experiment should take no more than 15 minutes, and it will be held next week.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfA1wfdBfCRlcG3WhDyc-V8lzgPNx3fDFCNXkyn4CSwahXZ_A/viewform?usp=sf_link Then, I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about my project, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa

In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Misuse of subclass of (P279) edit

This edit was wrong and led to a number of disjointness violations. Please remember that for "A" to be a subclass of "B", all instances of "A" must also be instances of "B". With all due respect, I have fixed several errors of this type from you, and I would appreciate if you would review Help:Basic membership properties before you add more subclass of (P279) statements. Swpb (talk) 13:51, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for making the effort to bring forward this discussion. My understanding is that a source (Q31464082) is a class that is typically not a fixed-order class, in agreement with the Wikidata usage instructions or description for the variable-order class. So the edit of mine that you mentioned can be viewed as a good-faith proposal that you are free to disagree or reject, instead of something disruptive or set in stone. Considering that many of the candidates for base classes are more abstract in nature, it should be reasonable to expect some differences in opinions or subjective judgements regarding the scope of their applicability. Just my two cents. --Zhenqinli (talk) 04:54, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
No, there is no subjectivity or room for interpretation here. I only need one counterexample (P12208): the Grasberg Mine (Q119297) is an instance of source (Q31464082) (of gold and copper), but is obviously not an instance of variable-order class (Q23958852), or any other kind of class (Q16889133) either. And if any instance of A is not an instance of B, then A is not, and cannot be, a subclass of B. I need to know that you understand this – I don't want to follow you around to clean up after you, or involve other editors to get you to understand it. Swpb (talk) 12:51, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
If one really thinks about following me around to clean up after me, perhaps it is time to take some time off? :) --Zhenqinli (talk) 15:51, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Obviously I don't only think about you. But one of my main activities is cleaning up false inferences caused by just this sort of edit, so if I come across someone habitually making bad edits and not acknowledging such, of course I'm going to be paying attention. So it comes down to this: do you understand your error, or not? Do you intend to misuse P279 this way going forward? Swpb (talk) 13:28, 26 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
