Andreas Søndergaard (Q59418474)/Andreas Søndergaard (Q57408525)

Items involved: Q59418474Talk, Q57408525Talk Status:     resolved

Accidentally merged these two. Restored pages to versions before merge, but now only one (Q57408525) appears through a search --HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 13:16, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

@HapHaxion: I see no issues when searching for the items. Maybe it was a cache issue? Esteban16 (talk) 17:24, 6 December 2018 (UTC)
That seemed to be the issue. HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 21:33, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

Iduna aedon (Q19682735)/Arundinax aedon (Q28778418)

Items involved: Q19682735Talk, Q28778418Talk Status:     resolved

Both items refer to identical zoological taxa (same bird species), now named Arundinax aedon. These should be merged. I didn't manage to merge them. Q28778418 links only to english version, Q19682735 to all other languages. --CWitte (talk) 17:01, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

WikiProject Taxonomy has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. Please post on the WikiProject's talk page instead. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 10:05, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
These are two different names, that is, two different formal entities. Since Wikidata holds by the proinciple of one concept per item, these should be kept separate. - Brya (talk) 12:26, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
Both names are synonyms. Scientific names of species change all the time (especially due to phylogenetic research) and no other species of birds I know of has two wikidata entries, or at least the articles don'T link to them. This would lead to multiple entries for almost all species, since most of them have several synonyms. In any case, the problem that the english language version is not linkable to any other language definitely has to be solved.--CWitte (talk) 09:05, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
The problem isn't with wikilinks. It'sbecause one name is the basionyM/protonym of the other. I'm not sure why wikidata insists on documenting synonyms not in use, but there you have it: these are separate and should not be merged. Marking as resolved.
IMO, I. aedon should NOT, however, be documented as a species, but strictly as a name, although that is frustratingly difficult: doing so causes various property to spazz out as soon as instance of (P31) is moved away from taxon (Q16521). Circeus (talk) 03:13, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
