Motivation
editIt is fairly common for plants in nature to have some edible parts and some toxic parts. Having a property for this would be useful to classify further between the edible and non-edible plants. M.A. Miron (📬) 05:39, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Discussion
edit- Oppose in current form. It would be better to create a new item for each product of a plant (example: turmeric (Q20730193), turmeric rhizome (Q48929903)) then ensure part of (P361)/natural product of taxon (P1582) is set correctly for each part of the plant. Properties minimal lethal dose (P2300) and minimal lethal concentration (P2710) could be used to denote whether part of a plant is toxic to a particular taxon and in what dosage/concentration, or better yet, the chemical compounds within part of a plant could have these toxicity properties set. part of (P361) cuisine (Q1778821) can be added if the plant product is consumed in raw form as part of a particular cuisine. Otherwise, the use of a plant product in diets can be derived by finding recipe (Q219239) which includes the plant product as an ingredient. For animal consumption of the plant product, there is also main food source (P1034). Also see edibility (P789) that is very similar to this proposal, but limited at the moment to describe mushrooms. - @Dhx1, Marc André Miron: Somehow that assume "parts" and not "parts of class" (see "Differences among has part (P527) and has parts of the class (P2670)" here).
Maybe this property should just be called "edible parts of class"? Once an item for a part is available statement is subject of (P805) could be set. --- Jura 11:32, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
