Motivation
editVeterans Legacy Memorial | U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says:
VLM is an online memorial that honors nearly 10 million Veterans interred in VA National Cemeteries, VA grant-funded cemeteries, DoD-managed cemeteries (including Arlington National Cemetery); U.S. Park Service National Cemeteries, and thousands of private cemeteries where Veterans have received a VA-provided gravesite marker since 1996.
Data available at VLM can include:
- First Name ― given name (P735)
- Middle Name ― ditto, and see too generational suffix (P8017)
- Last Name ― family name (P734)
- DOB ― date of birth (P569)
- Country/State/Territory ― country of citizenship (P27), allegiance (P945)
- DOD Cemetery ― place of burial (P119) sometimes including burial plot reference (P965)
- War Period ― conflict (P607)
- Service Branch ― military branch (P241), also confirmable by emblem displayed
- Decoration(s) ― award received (P166)
- image of gravestone ― image of grave (P1442), also can imply religion or worldview (P140) due to symbol displayed (https://www.vlm.cem.va.gov/assets/emblems/49.jpg and prior)
It seems the name slug (Q99601940) is required, not only the five-to-seven-digit hexadecimal identifier, but is case insensitive (Q55121183) so keeping it all in one case like the site hands out by default is optional; for the examples I have opted for name case for visual clarity. Discussion
edit- Support as proposer. Arlo Barnes (talk) 22:09, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
- Comment You don't need to support your own proposal, that's assumed. Can you provide the source for the data as a URL in the proposal template? Also is there a formatter URL that uses these ID's to bring up a relevant page somewhere? ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:25, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- Updated. If someone could help me with the regex I'd appreciate it. https://www.vlm.cem.va.gov/search?lname=- mentions "Only hyphen (-) and apostrophe (') special characters are currently supported. Please resubmit your search criteria." Arlo Barnes (talk) 19:27, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

- Support, an important property for society.--Arbnos (talk) 21:11, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
- Comment In the proposal this property is said to represent Veterans Legacy Memorial entry (Q123753543) rather than Veterans Legacy Memorial (Q120204905). The former is a Wikidata item representing an entry in the database which is the latter. I do not think it is usual, and I do not see a point, in having Wikidata items for the concept of entries in database. It is a small thing, but why not delete that item and point the representation to the database itself? Bluerasberry (talk) 17:12, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Comment That seems like a question for template talk:property proposal. `applicable stated in value` is what is currently used to refer to the overall site. Arlo Barnes (talk) 17:25, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

- @Arlo Barnes: In general, I don't understand the need of all these examples. In a property proposal, 3-4 good example are OK, maybe with the edge cases or some strange identifiers. Maybe here I miss the point. --Luca.favorido (talk) 06:11, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- Then trim them if you like. I'm curious by what criterion you might do so. Arlo Barnes (talk) 06:35, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
