Motivation edit
We have many properties for external identifiers but nothing for the product codes. Furthermore, a same product can have many product codes. We could do a research with the product code for finding the element. YotaMoteuchi (talk) 17:19, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose Use catalog code (P528). Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 18:57, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Pigsonthewing: shouldn't we use P528 only for artistic elements? YotaMoteuchi (talk) 21:24, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- Its English aliases include "catalogue code" and "astronomical catalog". Its English description is "catalog name of an object". Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:02, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- I'm not convinced by your argues: catalog here should be linked to an artistic point of view (like "opus" for a composer and so on). Check also Property talk:P528 where "product code" is not mentioned. YotaMoteuchi (talk) 22:49, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

- Comment I encountered a similar use-case working with hardware (game controllers, computer models) − I was missing eg a way to model PlayStation Analog Joystick (Q7202963) → SCPH-1110. Jean-Fred (talk) 14:07, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- Support Seems like treating products (internal) catalogues and published (external) catalogues separately is sensible. catalog code (P528) mandates a catalogue qualifier, which these will rarely, if ever have. Circeus (talk) 20:59, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose As it stands. it's not clear to me what those product codes mean in the examples. Especially when it comes to the book (not an edition). ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 18:49, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
- Support per Jean-Fred - could be useful, for example for hardware/some games. Sir Lothar (talk) 10:25, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose Not specific enough, it is unclear to users what exactly the product code means from item to item. Dispenser (talk) 04:25, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
- By that criterion, neither is catalog code (P528). That's what qualifiers are for. Circeus (talk) 10:50, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
Here, if this property is not raised (which should be easier I think), an alternative solution should be to use the property P528 as already said with a catalogue identifier. As this catalogue identifier doesn't exist in the majority of the cases (I would say "in all cases"), then a catalogue item needs to be raised when it's needed (by example : "Le Livre de Poche catalogue", "Stuffed Monkey catalogue", "Elite catalogue", and so on...
