Description | uses the object as a host and causes negative effects for it's host |
---|---|
Data type | Item |
Domain | virus (Q808), bacteria (Q10876), fungus (Q764) or computer virus (Q485) |
Example 1 | SARS-CoV-1 (Q85438966) → Homo sapiens (Q15978631) |
Example 2 | Natas (Q1037622) → DOS (Q170434) |
Example 3 | phiBB-1 (Q106807034) → Borrelia burgdorferi (Q2723634) |
Example 4 | Borrelia burgdorferi (Q2723634) → Homo sapiens (Q15978631) |
Motivation
editWe currently have no way to specify that SARS-CoV-1 (Q85438966) infects Homo sapiens (Q15978631) and generally store information about what viruses infect which taxons. The same goes for bacteria and fungi.
Intuitvely, computer viruses are analog to biological viruses, so a property that can work for both domains might be a good idea. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 21:56, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

- Weak support. For computer viruses, Oppose, use platform (P400) --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 00:49, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose It seems that existing properties host (P2975), has natural reservoir (P1605) and natural reservoir of (P1606) already allow hosts to be identified and modeled, unless I am missing something? --Dhx1 (talk) 03:40, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Dhx1: Ixodes (Q1951212) would also be a host for Homo sapiens (Q15978631). I feel like the relationship between Borrelia burgdorferi (Q2723634) and Homo sapiens (Q15978631) is different then the relationship with Ixodes (Q1951212). but it doesn't suffer from the bacteria. - Comment For computer viruses, operating system (P306) already exists and would serve this purpose? --Dhx1 (talk) 03:45, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
- That makes sense, then we can focus this on biology. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 14:14, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
- Do you mean infests? --Succu (talk) 20:46, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
- I think it's better using platform (P400) than operating system (P306), so we can cover macros for an specific program. --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 02:21, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

- Weak support for human/animal/plant pathogens (but not computer viruses, for which platform (P400) is IMHO preferable). In addition, the taxonomic range of what a particular pathogen infects may be broad and its confines potentially unknown. Also, I am not 100% on board with the definition of infection in terms of negative effects for the hosts, as this would mean the proposed property would not establish a relationship between a pathogen and a commensal reservoir hosts. Does EBOV infect bats? Yes. Do they suffer from ill effects? No. Ari T. Benchaim (talk) 01:27, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose the difference between infection and colonisation (Q2041929) is just that, in the first case, the symbiont has pathological traits with respect to the host, which can just be a single point mutation. Use host (P2975) please. --SCIdude (talk) 06:23, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. Adding to what Dhx1 and SCIdude pointed out, there is also afflicts (P689), which can be used for Lyme disease (Q201989)}}, for example. TiagoLubiana (talk) 14:45, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per SCIdude. -sasha- (talk) 16:54, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
