Motivation

I am updating several lists with information about video games. These lists are sorted chronologically, and being able to discern between released, not yet released (or "To Be Announced"), and cancelled items is important. SharkD Talk 03:23, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Comment it would be best to have an "item" datatype for this instead of string, either pointing to existing items (for example cancelled (Q30108381) perhaps?) or creating new ones with your labels. Also you should provide one or two concrete examples in the template to show how you plan to do this (specific existing wikidata items for which this property would apply). Comment it could make things easier. Currently this is sometimes handled with instance of (P31) (for things that are cancelled or projects). publication date (P577) for these would be "no value". I'm not convinced of the usefulness of this property for works that were actually published.

Comment For things like research articles, a "publication status" property could be useful to indicate when a publication has been corrected or retracted. Note sure whether significant event (P793) would cover that. --Daniel Mietchen (talk) 00:51, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- Significant event can be used with point in time to specify the date. The proposal as it's done above suggests no timing information and I think that would be hugely problematic given that "publication status = in development" wouldn't contain any information about when the thing was in development and whether it is at the time the reader opens the item.
