How do we translate ...

MediaWiki:Edittools ? author  TomT0m / talk page 18:46, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

A sysop can add translate tags. Sjoerd de Bruin (talk) 18:47, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

Still few strings to enable. Pamputt (talk) 19:34, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

One more question. MediaWiki:Edittools is now fully translated into French. However, the text is stille displayed in English whn I edit a page. Is there something to modify elsewhere? Pamputt (talk) 20:04, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

Interestingly, when you edit a page with uselang=qqx, you expect the message key (edittools) to be shown. So I think we should rather move the translatable content out of the MediaWiki: page to a template and transclude it there. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 20:15, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
Not understood everything but if it may solve this problem ,please do it   Pamputt (talk) 21:25, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
I think to translate them is not to use the translation extension, but create MediaWiki:Edittools/<lang> manually. Mbch331 (talk) 11:52, 1 October 2015 (UTC)
@Pamputt: Translated: I would move the content from MediaWiki:Edittools to {{Edit tools}} where it can be translated. Then, the content of MediaWiki:Edittools should be changed to {{#ifexist:Template:Edit tools/{{int:lang}}|{{Edit tools/{{int:lang}}}}|{{Edit tools/en}}}}.
@Mbch331: I don't think that would change anything. It seems that MediaWiki doesn't care about /<lang> subpages in this case. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 14:32, 1 October 2015 (UTC)
@Matěj Suchánek, TomT0m, Pamputt: it seems to be working now. When I edit a page I see the translated version of edittools. Mbch331 (talk) 15:23, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
Yep, that works here. Is it a magic trick or does someone has an explanation ? author  TomT0m / talk page 16:02, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
The page MediaWiki:Edittools has been moved to Template:Edit tools and then MediaWiki:Edittools has been recreated with code to insert the template in the correct language, with a fallback to English. Mbch331 (talk) 16:10, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

I want to translate Help:Classification

Can someone mark this as transtatable ? I'd like to translate this page in french. author  TomT0m / talk page 11:45, 5 October 2015 (UTC)

It's a redirect to a page in your own namespace. I don't know if the translation moves along with the mainpage when renaming. So I would suggest waiting until it's in the Help namespace and then translate. Mbch331 (talk) 12:24, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
We can wait like forever, Adopt Help:Classification as an official help page seems to go nowhere, but what is said in the page seems useful and is the only attempt to expose clearly the generic classification concepts we use and how ...
Can we make a test to know how translate pages handles moving ? I'd be surprised it is not a managed usecase, or there is a bug to open. author  TomT0m / talk page 12:35, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
Good luck with it. It's marked for translation. Mbch331 (talk) 12:43, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
It does not work :/ When I try to save a translation, it fails with an error message. I wanted to move the page on the "Help" namespace to see if it worked, but it seems only translator's admins can do that. author  TomT0m / talk page 14:53, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
Try translating again. I can translate to Dutch. Mbch331 (talk) 15:51, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
I think this page is in too early a stage to be translated. It needs some improvement prior to translation.--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 16:10, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
It's already translatable. I try to rewrite stuffs as I translate in french, so this actually helps to make it better :) It's always possible to improve the original while translating. Anyway, everything is better than waiting for something to happen. By translating, even in an early stage, this imply we maximise the number of person who could make a comment. author  TomT0m / talk page 16:23, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

I added a section about unmerging in this page, can someone mark it translatable ? I think it's important as wrong merge may have really bad consequences if not unmerged on time. – The preceding unsigned comment was added by TomT0m (talk • contribs).

  On hold
  1. What do you mean with Special:Diff/261863214? How do you expect it to work?
  2. Why should the {{Question}} paragraph be there?
Matěj Suchánek (talk) 13:03, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
Simple, I mean that for example Help:Fusion would redirect to Help:Merge/fr. But we don't really have to put some kind of localized shorcuts for all language version, so I mean to put this only on the french translation.
@Matěj Suchánek: For the "question", this is to say people there is probably unresolved issues Wikidata wide about unmerging. There is no reason only english speaking person should be aware of this. But anyway the most urgent stuff is to make the unmerging instruction translatable, so if you wish to remove controversial stuffs before marking for translation, go with this. author  TomT0m / talk page 14:21, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
The shortcut could be handled with something like {{#switch: {{SUBAGENAME}} | fr = Help:Fusion | #default = WD:M }}.
You know, I don't think a help page should confuse new users with questions. This should be placed to Help talk:Merge or WD:Project chat. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 14:31, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
@Matěj Suchánek: On the other hand I think instructions are a good place to note that we have a hole in Wikidata community and how we don't know how to handle things in some cases. And these problem should not be hidden but visible to anyone, including those who do not read english or talkages. Actually this is a section about unmerging, so it's not really a section for newbies. author  TomT0m / talk page 15:43, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
