At this point we do not aim to have all four types of items for any rowing competition/event in Wikidata. However, all available item shall be classified according to the scheme as described on this page.

Concept

Competitive rowing events are classified to different types:

• rowing regatta (Q21224061) (entire rowing regattas):
  • class items: World Rowing Championships (Q1413606)subclass of (P279)rowing regatta (Q21224061)
  • instance items: 2009 World Rowing Championships (Q80063)instance of (P31)World Rowing Championships (Q1413606)
    • items with statement subclass of (P279) rowing regatta (Q21224061) qualify as values here
    • if there is no dedicated class item such as World Rowing Championships (Q1413606) available for the regatta, create one or use rowing regatta (Q21224061) directly as value for instance of (P31)
• rowing event (Q21246076) (individual events at a regatta):

Rowing events

Class items

We have rowing event class items because of the existence of a couple of Wikipedia sitelinks of this type (e.g. the Grand Challenge Cup (Q2203703) is a rowing event regularly held at the Henley Royal Regatta). Besides holding a sitelinks, these kind of items are not useful for further modelling and they should thus not be created if there are no sitelinks. We use rowing event (Q21246076) directly as values for instance of (P31).
