Usage note
editAn island platform as depicted in the diagram should be treated as two platforms, as there are two tracks serving that platform (platforms 3 and 4). The total number of platform in the station in the diagram would be 4. The precision of the value should be set to 0. --Wylve (talk) 15:51, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
- Precision fixed for all places where this property is used (so far). --Jakob (talk) 22:41, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Wylve: and @Jakec: In the Netherlands we count all tracks. Take for example Haarlem railway station (Q800863). It has 8 tracks, but track 2 (image) and 7 (map) don't have a platform next to it. On the Dutch Wikipedia this stations has 3 platforms and 6 platform tracks (of which 2 are bay platforms). How to model this correctly here? Multichill (talk) 13:16, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Multichill:: From what I can deduce from the map you linked, the station has 6 platforms and 8 tracks. I think that the 3 platforms the Dutch wiki is referring to, are the two side platforms and one island platform. This system wouldn't work, as there are many platforms that use island platforms, but with two trains serving the opposite direction. These two directions are served by two platforms. Even in Haarlem railway station (Q800863), the island platform hosts four distinct platforms. I would recommend that you put 6 as the number of platforms for Haarlem railway station (Q800863). —Wylve (talk) 16:32, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Wylve: So we have several numbers if we take Haarlem railway station (Q800863) as an example:
- Number of tracks: 8 (no property available AFAIK)
- Number of platforms: 3 (this property shouldn't be used for that)
- Number of tracks with a platform next to it: 6 (this property should be used for that)
- So name and description of this property is currently unclear. This is what we call "Perronsporen" in Dutch: The number of tracks ("sporen") that have a platform ("perron") next to it. I would propose updating the English description to something like "number of tracks with a platform in a railway station". Agree? Multichill (talk) 16:48, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Multichill: Agreed. I'll change the English description. We might have to propose a few new properties to include information about the number of tracks and the number of physical platforms (regardless of tracks serving it). —Wylve (talk) 16:52, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

- Please join Wikidata:Property_proposal/Transportation#number_of_platform_faces for further discussions on platforms. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 13:47, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
- It's now at Wikidata:Property_proposal/number_of_island_platforms (withdrawn in April 2017).

Chinese labels
edit@Liuxinyu970226: Why did you change the Chinese labels back to "number of platforms" from "number of platform tracks"? Jc86035 (talk) 09:52, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
Because of "Should I use "站台数目" instead now? I think so, yes." --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 09:55, 19 February 2017 (UTC)Maybe we should ask @Wylve: for a better name? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 10:08, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
Re-scoping in 2015 or 2014
editAs mentioned (by User:Pasleim) in the deletion discussion, the label was changed in October 2015 ([1]). Somehow this changed the scope of the property. More about this in the deletion discussion.

- Actually, the description was changed in April 2014 [2] (per discussion above).
--- Jura 14:50, 5 November 2017 (UTC)- @Wylve, Nenntmichruhigip: per above, this property is undergoing a foggy criteria. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 12:51, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
