Motivation
editThe issue was brought to me by User:Arroser, who is interested in filling up the value in hotel items in Wikidata. He informed me that he would not place a proposal here on his own, due to uncertainty whether his level of English and knowledge of Wikidata would allow him to properly support such a proposal. I found it reasonable, so you can consider it as my proposal which was triggered by User:Arroser. Similarly needed are "Number of suites", "Number of restaurants", which you can see that are all used in the relevant infoboxes. I will proceed to them if this proposal goes ahead. We need to fix the properties needed by the hotel infoboxes. FocalPoint (talk) 19:16, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
Notified: Notice left at the discussion pages of relevant infoboxes. --FocalPoint (talk) 11:31, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
Discussion
editExpressable via number of rooms (P8733) and applies to part, aspect, or form (P518)? See also Wikidata:Requests for comment/How would you state the number of (rooms, restaurants, suites) in a hotel? and Wikidata:Property proposal/number of rooms.--GZWDer (talk) 23:18, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi GZWDer. Indeed, I also did this research before proposing this Property. However, Wikidata:Property proposal/number of rooms is something different. It describes the number of rooms that generally a building has (it includes ball rooms, offices), not the number of rooms for rental. Furthermore, the discussion Wikidata:Requests for comment/How would you state the number of (rooms, restaurants, suites) in a hotel? clearly shows that it is possible but complicated to do it if absolutely necessary. We do not need a technique to trick the system. We need a straight solution: A property that can be easily used by infoboxes in all Wikipedias, about the most significant entity connected with the hotel industry (Q1285245). --FocalPoint (talk) 07:39, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose No, not yet another "number of"-property. They are far too many already. Use has part(s) of the class (P2670) with qualifier quantity (P1114) instead. /ℇsquilo 16:25, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- You are right, but why on Earth didn't Wikidata simply model numbers with [number of] {unit/quantity, the real number} of {something : deceased/wounded/passengers/etc etc} ? --Bouzinac 💬●✒️●💛 11:37, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
- Because it's less clear what the predicate is if you used that modeling. It's also very Anglocentric to use of this way as it's not a word that has direct translations in all languages. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 13:41, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

- Support. I think it's a good idea, there's always the number of rooms or suites specified for large hotels, it's an important part of the characteristics. --Arroser (talk) 20:05, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose feels not a Wikidata thing to manage - Salgo60 (talk) 17:45, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- Not done, no consensus to create --DannyS712 (talk) 18:03, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
