Hello. I'll keep this brief. My name is Bill william compton and I am self-nominating myself for adminship. I joined Wikipedia on 15 August 2010, and since then I have accumulated over 45,700 global edits. I am active on multiple Wikimedia projects, including English, Hindi and Fiji Hindi wikis and Wikimedia Commons, and occasionally Simple English, French, Spanish, wikis and Meta. I'm a sysop on the Hindi Wikipedia (and currently the most active one). If you find it relevant, I have multiple user rights on several wikis.
I've made more than 3,000 edits here. I'm a fairly active new page patroller and combat vandalism. I feel that if I receive the mop, it will be a net-positive for the project. The admin tools would assist in stuff I do like tagging items for speedy deletion and translating pages to Hindi (in mediawiki namespace). I can read and write in English, Hindi, French and Fiji Hindi. I can also read in Spanish, Romanian and Marathi, and many other European and Indian languages at a basic level. Thanks for your consideration!--Bill william compton (talk) 18:07, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Yes, please. I see your name on the RfD page about every day; obvious use for the tools and can be trusted with them. Ajraddatz (Talk) 21:26, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OpposeSysop on other wikis is a plus, but your defense of Racepacket on enwp, who is now indefinitely banned on two projects for serial harassment, leaves me unable to support. --Rschen7754 22:46, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]- To be honest, what have his actions on enwiki to do with Wikidata? Here is no Racepacket who could be defended. Could you explain, please? Vogone talk 23:08, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Of course, but this leaves me to wonder how the candidate would handle similar users. --Rschen7754 23:20, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- I was not "defending" him as innocent, but I wasn't screaming guilty either and my statement made it clear. I was one of the involved parties and had dispute with KnowIG and Laura. KnowIG is indefinitely banned/blocked on multiple projects for using racial slurs, sockpuppetry and hounding me. And, I respect Laura a lot and I have very cordial relations with her. At that time, I was still pretty new to the Wikipedia (a bit more than four months to be precise), and so I hadn't learned how to deal with this type of situation yet. There's no doubt that I made some mistakes but does that have to dictate who I am for the rest of my life? For the benefit of readers who are unfamiliar with the matter, Rschen7754 is referring to ArbCom case involving him, me and all the mentioned users.--Bill william compton (talk) 02:31, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Would you still have made the same statement today, regarding that Racepacket acted like a "gentleman" in the matter and that he was right to canvass other users to his user conduct RFC? --Rschen7754 03:52, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- I still believe that "[he] was [right] in canvassing the active editors to see if they wanted to continue the GA review", but I WILL NEVER condone canvassing of users to RFC or any such thing; that's quite a different matter. I was naive and amazed and even bewildered by the behavior of some users. I felt that I had no place to turn. At that time, Racepacket came forward to help me out. I was overwhelmed by his random act of kindness, or I perceived it that way. Maybe, because of gratitude, I "defended" him in that incident. I didn't (and don't) know about his involvement with road related articles. Honestly, If I knew, I would never have acted like that. My mistake, which I have freely admitted, was that I never bothered to know about his behavior with other editors.--Bill william compton (talk) 12:59, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
