Hello! My name is Jared... some time ago I considered making a request for adminship early next year, but as I get more and more into Wikidata, I thought to myself: why wait? I am happy editing as I go, like to fix mistakes when I see them, find it cool to merge two items when I see a pair, and, well, clean-up wherever I can. I have been a regular editor across the various Wikimedia projects for nigh on ten years. I have autopatrolled and rollbacker rights on en.wiki, where I have 60,000+ edits, and, here on Wikidata, 17,000+ edits since I first came over in February 2013. Wikidata is amazing, and, to some extent, much more reliant on collaboration than Wikipedia. It is an immense project with a lot of work to be done over the coming months and years, and I'd love to be a part of this endeavour. Interwiki work is one of my main interests, I can read many languages (even if I can't speak as many as I'd like!) and my aim is to help where I'm needed. If anyone needs any assistance, I'm open for dialogue, and if my candidacy were to be accepted, I'd be looking forward to getting down to work over the pending festive period, where some may not be online or available for a few days at a time but I'm not one to disappear for any long periods. I'd like to think that I am trusted by my peers, and I thank you in advance for your support! Jared Preston (talk) 00:38, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

edit- Weak oppose Everything looks good, except that I'm not sure you're aware of how things on the project are changing (I see concerns brought up by another user about some of your edits on your talk page and you are still requesting deletion after merges even though redirection is now the preferred solution).--Jasper Deng (talk) 01:49, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment/question: If you are referring to Q18621032, the text "<redacted> domit ( yogurt) es un jugador de call of duty. nacido el 21 de enerp de 1997 en la cd de mexico. crecio en u" (which, if it appeared on Wikipedia, would be speedily deleted) couldn't possibly be redirected anywhere. It could even possibly be a personal attack (hence my removal of the personal name). When using the merge wizard (which I do), there is no longer any button to request deletion – so upon merging recently, I have automatically made redirections (which I also advocate – that indeed was a great idea). Or, if I may beg your pardon, did you have a different example in mind? Jared Preston (talk) 02:09, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Weak support, no big concerns at the moment, but keep in mind we no longer delete merged items, we redirect (unless blah blah blah), after a recent RfC. --AmaryllisGardener talk 01:54, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]- Changing to Support. --AmaryllisGardener talk 02:07, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Weak support per above. Jianhui67 talk★contribs 03:10, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]- I am convinced to change to a full Support after looking at his answer to Sjoerddebruin's question. Jianhui67 talk★contribs 14:28, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose per Jasper Deng. Also after Rfc passes, we don't need more admin.--DangSunM (talk) 03:53, 12 December 2014 (UTC)Neutral for now per answer in comment section--DangSunM (talk) 22:51, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]- Support I'd say give him a go; I see the concerns, but he can always be removed for inactivity. --Rschen7754 06:40, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- Support, I don't have any concerns. --Stryn (talk) 12:44, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- Support I understand the concerns of Jasper, and share them, but I am willing to give Jared Preston a shot. After the RfC passes I think we should also re-evaluate admin activity criteria. Ajraddatz (talk) 03:29, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

- Support Even though sysops for deleting are no more needed as they used to be, there is still something any of sysops can do. Let's see, anyone may bring something useful to this awesome project. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 19:09, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

edit- What kind of activities do you want to do when you're a administrator? Sjoerd de Bruin (talk) 10:14, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- What type of activities I'd like to do and which I won't like to do, really will be seen once I am given the job. How I can answer now in what I currently like to do, apart from the writing of labels and descriptions, creating new items with statements and the like, is to keep an eye out on vandalism. Both on Wikipedia and Wikidata, I usually have an extra tab or window open with Special:RecentChanges, and although I don't think I'd gain any enjoyment out of blocking anyone, if it were for the good of the project, I couldn't watch and just let more vandalism happen. Given the example above of the vandalism/nonsense item, I would be in a position to delete it, rather than coming to you guys to request deletion (and for it only to actioned hours and hours later). On Wikipedia I've always had an eye out for permissions requests, so would like to be active at Requests for permissions/Other rights, and although I've not been directly active at Wikidata:Property proposal, I've often had conversations with fellow users about stale property requests, which does seem to have somewhat of a backlog to work through. I'm here to help, after all. And last, but not least, if something comes to my attention at the Administrators' noticeboard, I can action it if/when it comes in and/or someone needs the help. - If you are looking for areas to contribute as an admin, Special:newpages patrolling is very lacking here :-) Ajraddatz (talk) 03:30, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- That's a very good idea indeed, thank you! Jared Preston (talk) 08:58, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
