SamoaBot 9 edit
SamoaBot (talk • contribs • new items • new lexemes • SUL • Block log • User rights log • User rights • xtools)
Operator: Ricordisamoa (talk • contribs • logs)
Task/s: import German description for people, from {{Personendaten}} (the "KURZBESCHREIBUNG" field)
Function details: the same task of FischBot 2. It will not overwrite existing descriptions. Some test edits: [1] and [2]. --Ricordisamoa 12:53, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Now SamoaBot it's the Wikidata robot with the highest number of planned tasks! :) --Ricordisamoa 12:55, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- What's the point? How will you avoid duplication of work with FischBot? Legoktm (talk) 12:56, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- If the descriptions are taken from the same source, then they're the same; so, if one bot retries to set it, the changes will be... none. --Ricordisamoa 13:09, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- ... one bot in one year can do 100000000 edits; two bots can do 200000000. --Ricordisamoa 13:11, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- There are only about 484406 transclusions of that template, though :P Hazard-SJ ✈ 04:20, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Some other test edits made: [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9] and [10]. --Ricordisamoa 13:14, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Speed is not an issue here. What is an issue is duplication of work and wasting bot-writers time. If Pyfishbot and yours are going to be checking the same pages, you're wasting time/cpu/bandwith/etc fetching the page text, parsing it, fetching the item from Wikidata and checking it. There are tons of bot tasks just looking for someone to write code and run it, so when someone proposes a duplicate task with 0 additional benefit it slightly pisses me off. Legoktm (talk) 13:15, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Ok. (Maybe we could reach an agreement on what pages to parse...) --Ricordisamoa 13:24, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Honestly, I'd rather you withdrew this and just took a look at Wikidata:Bot_requests, picked a few and wrote some code. I'm confident that you could have at least 5 more requests filed very quickly if you tried :D Legoktm (talk) 13:48, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Support I would like to see that as a bottask, even if the Fischbot is doing the same. Fischbot is writing logs (User:FischBot/Logs/Completed). He is running in order from past (born in 1st Century) to present (currently something around born in 18th Century), so if SamoaBot would be running from present (born 2012) to past, there shouldn't be any issues. The category born in 20th century is the biggest category of all, and it will take time to add these descriptions. With the help of Samoabot this gap could be filled faster.--CENNOXX (talk) 21:42, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- OK, so that's a test edit for (the only page in) de:Category:Geboren 2012, and that's the log. --Ricordisamoa 22:22, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Great! Legoktm (talk) 12:58, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
