Translation invalidation working again

For those who didn't notice: the fix for bugzilla:47178 reached Meta and Wikidata on the 1st as part of mw:MediaWiki_1.22/wmf3#Translate, everything seems to work correctly now. users and translation administrators can again make and propagate minor changes to translatable pages without invalidating (and removing from translation pages) translations which are still valid. --Nemo 11:04, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Good news! --β16 - (talk) 12:18, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Roads task force/Germany

Please mark these pages for translation:

--Labant (talk) 22:20, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Sure. Just a question first: Wouldn't it be better to only translate all of the headlines, and leave out the lists of items to be ticked off and the lists of links to subpages from the translation? Be also aware that it will not be possible to tick off items when using a translated page, as these cannot be edited manually. PS. Please do not insert the translation unit markers (like "<--T:1-->") yourselves. It is best leave that to the translation extension. Regards, Byrial (talk) 05:28, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
There are only the headlines and the introduction are translated. The lists do not. But I do not know how the comments have to be set. --Labant (talk) 06:07, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Done. I edited the pages so only introduction and headlines are translated, and then marked them for translation. I hope that is satisfactory. Remember that if you are viewing a translated page, you will not be able to edit it to mark some item as done, as only the original page can be edited. Byrial (talk) 07:25, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Yes, that is correct. Thanks for your help. But please mark the page Wikidata:Roads task force/Germany again, because there was a mistake in one headline. --Labant (talk) 07:38, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Done And I also removed a duplicate word from the section title. The Anonymouse (talk | contribs) 07:54, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Now I have a problem: I thought that the edit lock only affects the headlines and not for the entire page.
My solution: I move all To-do lists in subpages. And now the mark of these pages has to be set again:

An the pages

must be removed from the mark for translation. --Labant (talk) 10:58, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

All pages are allready translated into German, which is the most important language on this subject.--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 09:21, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
The original English version since it already contains the translation with {{LangSwitch}} (in the comments below, Example) for Danish, German and French.
Sorry ich kann nicht so gut englisch: Es sollen die Hauptseiten weiterbestehen, also die englischen und nicht die Übersetzungsunterseiten. Auf den Hauptseiten befinden sich die Übersetzungen für dänisch, deutsch und französisch als Kommentare am Ende des Quelltextes. --Labant (talk) 16:52, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
I wanted to ask again, how is it with the redemption of the translation pages. --Labant (talk) 00:11, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
Wikidata:Roads task force/Germany/Bundesautobahn/A Other was excluded from translation earlier. Now I've excluded Wikidata:Roads task force/Germany/Bundesstraße/B Other (though even after that, the system allowed me to create the Russian translation). --Michgrig (talk) 09:08, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for removeing from the mark for translation. Now I have the language subpage marked for deletion. --Labant (talk) 05:19, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Translation tool outdated?

I have just known that the English FAQ page has been updated. I wanted to update the Catalan translation as well but I notice that the translation tool has not been updated, and I cannot update the Catalan translation manually. Is this normal? Maybe should I wait until the translation tool reflects the current English content? Or there is a way to "force" the update of the translation tool content? Sorry but I'm a newbie in Wikidata! Thanks in advance! --Qllach (talk) 16:43, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

When a translated page is edited, it was to be remarked for translation before the changes can be translated. It is the users in the user group Translation administrators that can do that. I have now marked Help:FAQ for translation after making a minor correction to the previous edit. Byrial (talk) 17:19, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the info!--Qllach (talk) 18:12, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi! What about translations of template documentation? Template:Constraint/doc now has Russian/English text. And could someone please check the page for accuracy of the English translation? Especially "с менее, чем 5000 включений" and "актуальными" – I had to rely on Google translate and am unsure if I got it right. Thanks a lot. -- Make (talk) 21:56, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Done. text is now switched bilingual with Template:LangSwitch. Contents updated to reflect recent bot improvements -- Make (talk) 14:14, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
I strongly   Disagree. IMHO, doc pages must also be made translatable according to the current technique and not by using LangSwitches. --Michgrig (talk) 10:34, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

A query

I just noticed that Fuzzybot deleted page "Translations:Wikidata:Sock puppetry/9/gu" and so on which I translated. Edit summary says it was a "Part of translation page "Wikidata:Sock puppetry/gu". The page Wikidata:Sock puppet is moved to Wikidata:Alternate Account or so it seems. Now my query is do I have to translate these deleted messages again or the policy for sock puppetry has simply ceased to exist.--Vyom25 (talk) 19:08, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

There are two pages for policies. See more on here You might save your translations and reuse it as a draft for the other page.--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 20:39, 6 May 2013 (UTC) OMG, the two pages were merged and all the translations are deleted by fuzzybot on both pages.--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 20:54, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
And how do I save it? Translated pages are already deleted.--Vyom25 (talk) 05:32, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
I found the same thing. Maybe an admin can undelete it and move it to your name space. --Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 14:49, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Okay, I have also posted at ANI. At the link you gave. Let's see.--Vyom25 (talk) 16:41, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
I have manually moved the translation to User:Vyom25/Translation. I would have moved it but I am unable to due to the translation not belonging to a tranlsate marked page. John F. Lewis (talk) 21:54, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the effort you have put in for this, WD:Sock puppet wasn't marked for translation??--Vyom25 (talk) 06:24, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Wait, you moved only message number 9. There is whole range of those deleted numbered 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9(which was moved by you), 10, 11. But I guess moving them manually is considerably difficult or time consuming so leave it translating again would take less time. What's your take?--Vyom25 (talk) 06:28, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
I'll mark the appropriate page for translation and move them all over to you userspace now. John F. Lewis (talk) 07:05, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Manually moved to the Translation subpage. Sorry for the long wait. John F. Lewis (talk) 16:57, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
John I should thank you for the effort you have put in. you need not apologize Thank you very much again.--Vyom25 (talk) 17:44, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

Help:Aliases

Would someone please adapt Translate extension for Help:Aliases. It is currently translated in ad-hoc way. --fryed-peach (talk) 07:45, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

We had a discussion where we choosed to disable it at Help:Aliases. --Stryn (talk) 09:15, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
The discussion is at Help talk:Aliases#Delete translation tool from this page. Byrial (talk) 09:41, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

Special permissions???

Hi, I'm translating (well, trying to translate) Workflow States page into Catalan and I get the message: Saving the translation failed: You're not allowed to edit interface messages. I haven't had any problems to translate anything up to now. Who should I contact to be granted this permission? Thanks in advance.--Qllach (talk) 20:41, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

You can ask permission here --ValterVB (talk) 20:46, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
You do not need any permission to translate. Only messages of the "Workflow States" group must be translated by an administrator (not TA). --β16 - (talk) 21:24, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
I faced the same problem a few days ago; now my question is if I give translations of Workflow stats messages to an admin can he save it? As there is no Gujarati speaking admin available here.--Vyom25 (talk) 07:13, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Sure, we can save those translations (I've already done this once), just give the translations. :) --Stryn (talk) 07:35, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Okay, I will contact you when translations are ready. Thanks for doing this.--Vyom25 (talk) 07:40, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
I have the same request for Catalan, may I send you the Catalan translations for the 6 messages in the "Workflow States" group so you can enter them? Thanks in advance!--Qllach (talk) 11:40, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Sure. --Stryn (talk) 11:47, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Error!!!

Please someone, go through this page and this page. I don't know what's the problem.--Vyom25 (talk) 07:10, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Fixed. (The code generating the charts didn't like Gujarati numbers as time parameters). Byrial (talk) 07:26, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, now doesn't it look better. ;)--Vyom25 (talk) 07:41, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Chinese translation only available as zh ?!

When I try to translate some pages to simplified Chinese(zh-hans) today , "translate to zh please" appears. Why make this change without any discussion ? Chinese Wikipedia use only zh because there is internally a mapping table between zh-hans and zh-hant, which is not the case in wikidata. Since I have learned that a language code can be marked as "not available", I propose marking zh-cn, zh-tw, zh-hk, zh-sg, zh-my ,zh-mo and zh as " not available" with reason "please translate to either zh-hans or zh-hant" per the discussion at Chinese project chat page(in Chinese)--凡其Fanchy 07:55, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

This probably doesn't have to do with Wikidata, but rather with the translation extension. The Anonymouse (talk | contribs) 08:16, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
See bugzilla:37338. See also drop-down menu for "zh-" variance in the tabs line - by link Help:Contents/zh (currently unexist; as example). Should be community decision about what version it should be transferred to /zh subpage (for exists translations).--Kaganer (talk) 14:47, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
Just the same as the Chinese wikipedia, but what are the zh-cn, zh-tw, zh-hk, zh-mo, zh-sg, zh-my, and zh used for? I think they can be removed from the drop-down menu. The former six variants are used in Chinese wikipedia for some boring automatic dialect conversion similar with conversion from "metro" to "underground" or "subway". And no one will read Chinese(zh) mixed with simplified characters and traditional characters. Precisely zh-hans and zh-hant are subsets of zh, not variants of zh. --凡其Fanchy 16:32, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but I just mentioned a possible cause of this problem. I don't know the details and I don't know this topic adequately. --Kaganer (talk) 20:55, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Can this mechanism be implemented ? When I choose say Simplified Chinese(zh-hans) but part of page is not yet translated to zh-hans. Then the page is mixed with zh-hans and en. If in that case the page can automatically load the content from zh-hant rather than en, and automatically convert all the content from zh-hans and zh-hant to zh-hans. Then the drop-down menu will not be needed. --凡其Fanchy 17:04, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello, can somebody please mark Wikidata:Introduction for translation? I replaced there some images with svg graphics which have all the same style. Because this is some time ago I ask here. --Pyfisch (talk) 18:30, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Done - thank you, Byrial (talk) 19:02, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Translation statistics

I have noticed that the translation statistics do not reflect the real translations status accurately (at least for Catalan). For example, the page shows there are outdated messages in a particular section but when I am going to update them, there is nothing to update. The same for untranslated messages and so on. I was wondering if this is a bug or if the stats are not really being updated. Does anybody know? Thanks in advance!--Qllach (talk) 08:40, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

Found the same situation quite frequently. There are some sources of this bug. One source is when you use "Enganxa el text original". The text is taken over 1:1 into the translation, but the text is not marked as translated. You have to edit the text, just insert a charakter and then delete it again, then the software accepts it as a translation (happens very often with headers). I also found when you save the last edit of several edits, that the last translation in the row is not marked as translated. So just edit a second time by placing a "space" in the end and save it again. Sometimes it also happens witout any reason I can see. Verry annoing bug, because you can´t find out, which of the translated part makes the trouble. --Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 09:22, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

Error "tpt-translation-restricted"

I wanted to translate here some Parts into German, but I got error "tpt-translation-restricted" and the translation culd not be saved. Meanwhile I found a restriciton of this translation to Italian here. Can someone please remove this restriciton and enable translation for all languages?--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 17:10, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

For Catalan it seems there is no restriction, I have translated a short message in that page and apparently it got saved.--Qllach (talk) 18:04, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
  Done --β16 - (talk) 18:16, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
The translation extension is removed kompletely now.--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 14:24, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
Restored. I have asked to Vogone why he removed the translate extension. --β16 - (talk) 14:46, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
Do I have to understand this? I was asked here why I did that, I explained and the reaction was not a response but rather a revert of my action, without any further explanation. I'm a bit upset now, to be honest. Regards, Vogone talk 15:03, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
