Import of J9U IDs - solving problems

edit
English: Hi! Thanks again for your import of J9U ID (P8189) IDs to Wikidata! However, I have just noticed that there are 175 cases in which two items, one (or both) being a human, share the same ID; these errors seem, in nearly all cases, due to the import. There are different types of cases, here some (please check 0247 tag in J9U):

I am removing J9U IDs from not-pertinent items, but I need that wrong links from J9U to Wikidata are removed too; otherwise, future imports from J9U to Wikidata will make my work useless; so, I would ask you, when I have completely emptied the page, to check all the 175 J9U IDs one by one, in order to align them to Wikidata. I will inform you when I have finished the check. Thanks in advance! --Epìdosis 13:05, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Epìdosis, thank you very much for this comment. How I can have the full list of all the duplicate to work on them manually? if i understand correctly, all of them should be fixed also in the NLI database. Geagea (talk) 13:20, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Probably most of them need an adjustment in J9U, I'm not sure all of them; you can copy them from the two tables here. I suggest you to intervene in J9U after I have cleaned everything in Wikidata, so that you can rely on my edits instead of doing the same work that I'm doing, losing more time ;-) --Epìdosis 13:25, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
OK, this Sunday has been interesting :) I have finished all the cases, you can start the check in J9U. Thanks and good night! --Epìdosis 21:30, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Epìdosis, thanks. Can you look again about this Cebes (Q61474568) - Cebes (Q965144) - 987007259420605171. Geagea (talk) 11:36, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Also Cay Diedrich Lienau (Q1051931) - Cay Lienau (Q28869510) - 987007264674205171. look at the date of birth and death. Geagea (talk) 12:13, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Cebes moved, Cay Lienau seems OK on Wikidata. --Epìdosis 13:00, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
But her field 046: 1867-08-26 g 1953-04-14 2 edtf. It's fits to Q1051931. Geagea (talk) 13:06, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Also Tomasz Arciszewski (Q56344585) born in 1948 - Tomasz Arciszewski (Q888350) (1877–1955) 987007272548205171. Geagea (talk) 14:06, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Cay Lienau: OK, moved, but "LCN note: b. 1937" should probably be removed. Moved the next two cases, of course. Thanks! --Epìdosis 23:28, 6 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Epìdosis, thank you very much for your remarkable corrections and your efforts. Geagea (talk) 18:21, 10 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

J9U persons on Mix'n'match

edit
English: The catalog (https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/?#/catalog/5446) has finally been created, thanks to the data you provided me and @Bargioni: a few months ago. The number of J9U IDs on Wikidata has increased of more than 50k. Good night, --Epìdosis 23:23, 6 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
There is another 16k, but it need someone who is brave XD Matlin (talk) 19:40, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Matlin, Don't think that bravence needed her. It is better to be carefully rather than just mach id's. it make mass that makes a lot's of efforts to fix them. see her. Librerians from the National library of Israel working manually for matches and I'm pressing them to her. It is better to process carefully. Geagea (talk) 20:10, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Incorrectly associating family names with an individual family

edit

I was reviewing your recent edits and you've added J9U identifiers to instances of family name (Q101352). That is nearly always incorrect. In the example of Westfeldt (Q63441575), a family name/last name, you have associated it with the J9U for "Westfeldt family". Please review your updates to items of type family name (Q101352). I think you will find that most need to be undone. --William Graham (talk) 18:49, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have further reviewed your edits. I recommend you roll back that entire batch. --William Graham (talk) 18:53, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, you are probably correct. I should mach them to family (Q8436). I will revert myself. Geagea (talk) 19:00, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
William Graham, you are correct. that's pity but... reverts are in process. Thank you. Geagea (talk) 19:35, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Error detection

edit

Your bot should not add a date that contradicts an existing date by more than a few years. The date added has a person dying before they were born or living more than 120 years. Can you adjust the bot to look for those obvious errors? See for example: John Inglett-Fortescue (Q26265809). See: Wikidata:Database reports/items with P569 greater than P570 for one of the error detection searches I monitor. I just corrected eight errors. The problem may be caused by Reinheitsgebot which has been adding in incorrect VIAF identifiiers. RAN (talk) 16:07, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

RAN, It's not connected to VIAF. I know the problem and will fix it. Thanks for notification. Geagea (talk) 17:32, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Great! Peak at the Database Report from time to time, it picks up a lot of bot errors. There is also one for people who lived over 120 years that are not recognized as a supercentenarian. --RAN (talk) 17:36, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
RAN, Anyway I did not understand what was the problem with Charlie Grimm (Q5084955). I seems to be ok?. Geagea (talk) 17:40, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
All my edits contain a source from the National Library of Israel database. Geagea (talk) 17:43, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • I think the problem is conflation of people with the same name that lived in different eras. Reinheitsgebot is making the same errors just before your additions, that is why I thought it was confusing you. --RAN (talk) 17:45, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
all the edits based on LCCN id, so it's probably wrong. Will report to NLI. Geagea (talk) 17:50, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, we got a report error in the Spanish Wikipedia about the birthdate of Q1452592. I saw that you made an edit not so long ago in which you added a birthday that is much more contemporary compared to the ones that were already in the datasheet and in the article on eswiki. Is there a chance that you might have got the wrong Henry? if so, do you mind reverting (maybe partially) the change? Thank you. Nacaru (talk) 09:44, 16 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I'm not convinced about this moving LC and J9U, although the dates (only in J9U) point to the pedagogue, in both authorities all the connected bibliographic records are clearly by the physicist. @U. M. Owen I found some info and added it to the item. Mordekhai Friedman (Q105519431) was Av Beit Din (Q694994) (must be rabbi before). this book edited by Pinchas Stern (Q120556750) is about him. His book Techeles Mordechai (תכלת מרדכי) - part 1 (WorldCat), part 2 (WorldCat), part 3 (WorldCat). The info about his date of birth is from Geni. Incorrect use of subclass of (P279)

edit

Hello –

This edit to "crime victim" (Q10436169) was in error. Because subclass of (P279) is transitive (for example, see this tree of parent classes), such errors lead to numerous false inferences, such as crime victim (Q10436169)subclass of (P279)science (Q336) Before you use the properties instance of (P31) and subclass of (P279), please be familiar with Help:Basic membership properties, and look at the value item in your statement to be sure it's the one you intend. (In particular, note that "A" is only a subclass of "B" if all instances of "A" are also instances of "B".) There is often another property that can accurately express the relationship you had in mind; in this case, studied by (P2579) works better. You can search through available properties here. Thanks! Hi! Thanks for answering Geagea, I´am doing and checking LCCN Numbers on this german LCCN page and found de:Meister des Tucheraltars popped up, asking for an update. The book „Naturwissenschaft im beginnenden Mittelalter“ is from the year 1924, and could not be written from "Karl Heinrich August Manitius" beeing dead since 1921. --Stephan Tournay (talk) 09:51, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Could you have a look at the two persons with this name in the authority file of J9U? Thanks in advance as always and good evening! --Epìdosis 20:04, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Wow! I didn't notice the above messages of 20 March by @Stephan Tournay:; I think in fact this LC n87120214 is problematic: His Naturwissenschaft im beginnenden Mittelalter is surely a work of Karl Manitius (Q1606593): German historian (1899-1979), but at the same time it has an exact match with https://isni.org/isni/0000000118389219 (which is Karl Manitius (Q15730342): German grammar school teacher, classical philologist and historian of science (1848-1921)), and among the 11 resources connected to it there are both books by both persons, so I have added it in both items and marked it as conflated. --Epìdosis 20:09, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Carl Theodor Schmidt

edit

Karl Theodor Schmidt (Q1040805): German journalist (1817-1887) / VIAF:161969795 mixes 3 persons (NUKAT=DNB vs. LC-Auth=J9U vs. BIBSYS) J9U seems to be derived from LCCN n78084454‏ and mentions "his" work from 1977 as source. Sadly the death-date is 1887, so there should be no doubt the birth- and death-date are wrong. The mentioned work is this one: https://d-nb.info/770652727

Sadly I could not find more information about this co-author "Theodor Schmidt" and I see no realistic chance (Schmidt is on position 2 of the most common names in germany). Any chance to get rid of that incorrect dates causing the mix in VIAF? --Wurgl (talk) 09:09, 9 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Burak Yilmaz

A little bit more complicated. The VIAF-Cluster is VIAF:22149912461806211539. There is a record from DNB describing some german person engaging in antisemitism, working as a kind of teacher in theaters, see de:Burak Yilmaz (Autor). J9U assigned the work "Ehrensache: Kämpfen gegen Judenhass" which can also be seen in german wikipedia and in the GND-Record https://d-nb.info/gnd/1228635358

LC-Auth describes some dentist of Ohio State University and J9U seems to be derived from LC-Auth, so it shows "Dentistry‏" and happily mixes the work of german person with the profession of the Ohio guy. I think J9U should be split into two records, one for the dentist (Burak Yılmaz (Q40116614)) and one for that german person (Burak Yilmaz (Q109575127)) --Wurgl (talk) 07:50, 2 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Episcopal priest Q131918083

edit

I see that you recently created Episcopal priest (Q131918083): no description and Episcopal priesthood (Q131918071): no description attached to Episcopal Church (Q3586152): various churches in the Anglican, Methodist, and Open Episcopal traditions. I'm not sure if these items are a good idea. Is this really a distinct role and occupation? Can you point to sources which discuss this role in this particular tradition as distinct from Anglican priest (Q3409375), presbyter (Q831474), or Catholic priest (Q250867)? Part of the problem is that Episcopal Church (Q3586152) isn't really a coherent tradition itself, but rather a cluster of similar denominations used by those trying to classify the various branches of Christianity. Accordingly, I am doubtful that this amalgamation can produce a single coherent cultural product like a role. Daask (talk) 19:09, 5 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Reviewing usage of the item, it appears that all references are to denominations in the Anglican tradition, not Old Catholics or Methodist Episcopals. Why not merge to Anglican priest (Q3409375)? Daask (talk) 19:09, 5 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

You mean this? I don't really know. Look for example: the father of Clark Gregg was Episcopal priest. Anyway if you completely sure so go ahead and merge them or may we can ask at Wikidata:Project chat. Geagea (talk) 20:18, 5 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

First this is the MARC record. seems that birth and death no correct.
the list of works in the National Library of Israel. Three of the works are mentioned in this VIAF. So I believe the J9U and the LC are Karl Ahrens (Q95257318). Geagea (talk) 08:05, 10 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
The work "Städtische Wahlprüfungen in Preußen" is a doctoral theses in law from 1914, Karl Ahrens (Q95257318) was born 1857, so in the age of 57 this is extreme unlikely.
"Buch der Naturgegenstände" is from Karl Ahrens (Q95257318) see https://www.google.de/books/edition/Das_Buch_der_Naturgegenst%C3%A4nde/WkEy35BhhocC Page 4
"Columella über Landwirtschaft …" is a translation from Latin, in Deutsche Nationalbibliothek this is mentioned as published in 1972 Might be a reprint of an older translation, but I do not find any hint. If a reprint, then Karl Ahrens (Q95257318) might be okay
"Muhammed als religionsstifter" is according to https://www.opendata.uni-halle.de/handle/1981185920/111858 from Karl Ahrens (Q95257318)
"Die sogenannte kirchengeschichte des Zacharias" is according to https://digi.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/diglit/ahrens1899/0005/image,info from Karl Ahrens (Q95257318) --Wurgl (talk) 09:20, 10 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

c. Das "Buch der Naturgegenstände" - Karl Ahrens (Q95257318)

There is a Seymour Stein associated with SCPE at https://prabook.com/web/seymour.stein/372333 with a book „Modern communication principles with applications to digital signaling“. So, I think this is a good match (Name, Company SCPE, work about communication and Fellow Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).

And there is Seymour Stein (Q102243870): Ph.D. Harvard University 1955. This matches fairly good with prabook: "Harvard University", thesis in 1955. I created Richard Vogel (Q133514539): Author of „Victorian trinket boxes“. The dates are from Richard Vogel (Q23566263): German teacher and pedagogue. --Wurgl (talk) 06:50, 25 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Suzy

edit

J9U 987007376361605171 is from LC-Auth no2001099576 and references some music CD, see Discogs and there is a Suzy Q which matches en:Suzy Q (group)/Suzy Q (Q7651444): Canadian studio project created by Jerry Cucuzzella. Again, the birth date is wrong, it is from Suzy (Q15948875): Portuguese singer --Wurgl (talk) 07:06, 25 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Wurgl, the point is that instance of (P31)Suzy Q (Q7651444) is musical group (Q215380) but 987007376361605171 is about person. Geagea (talk) 07:53, 25 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Discogs: "Suzy Q was a studio project …" and later in the text "used at last 3 vocalists": Carol Jiani, Michelle Mills and Angie Vileno. enWP mentions two of them. So, this is a kind of pseudonym. Maybe @Kolja21: has some better idea. --Wurgl (talk) 08:05, 25 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
GND 134490002 also thought that "Suzy Q" was the name of a musician but it is not a conflation. It's just a misinterpretation of the name. J9U 987007376361605171 is a conflation because it was created for a title of the band "Suzy Q" which is wrongly identified as Suzy (Q15948875): Portuguese singer, b. 1980-01-24. --Kolja21 (talk) 11:45, 25 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. So I asked to change the "Personality" definition and remove the birth date and the gender. it's a musical group. Geagea (talk) 22:28, 29 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

WikiCite 2025

edit

Hi, I am reaching out to all users listed on the page listing ways for reporting errors to external databases, which I co-created last year.

As a main organizer of Wikicite 2025 I share my role in the academic committe with two other users who have edit access to external databases, and this topic holds significant interest for me. Consequently, I am keen on proposing a discussion space (in English) at the event (at least in the online component) centered on data round-tripping and the crucial role of Wikidata volunteers as intermediaries between third-party institutions and the broader community.

Let me know if you would like to participate, there is no discussion space for proposal yet but I would like to gather some usernames if there is an active interest. Just reply in my talk page or tag me here, so I can take note if you are interested. Alexmar983 (talk) 21:37, 23 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hermann Keßler / Hermann Kessler

edit

J9U 987007335870605171 seems to be an interesting mix. First of all, "ß" and "ss" are almost the same, in Switzerland, they do not use "ß", they always(?) use "ss", so this is okay. In Germany and Austria it is written different and spoken identical. However, this record is a mix of Hermann Keßler (Q125542942): (1914–2003), a historian and politican in Nördlingen and Q134316741: no description an author/teacher of german language. There is something odd with J9U 987012383887505171 very few information.
