Nicolas Bourbaki (Q190529) edit

The use of ALL-UPPERCASE for a person’s surname in the Esperanto label for Nicolas Bourbaki (Q190529) doesn’t seem appropriate. (I’d rather expect something like that for a French label.) And neither does the duplication of the label as an alias. Could you please explain these changes? TIA. — Ivan Shmakov (dc) 17:41, 6 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

category's main topic (P301) edit

My guess is that adding poor man’s Esperanto aliases like this one would be rather wasteful, in both the terms of servers’ space, and editors’ time. I’ve therefore removed the alias. — Ivan Shmakov (dc) 17:44, 6 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Language and script properties for Wikimedia projects edit

You're making constraint violations as these properties were not intended for Wikimedia projects and for works in general: script directionality, ISO 15924 alpha-4 code (also see uniqueness) and ISO 639-3 code. There are some variants to do: 1) to remove your properties (they are redundant as there is already a language which contains all information); 2) to change the domain of the properties (you must discuss at property talks first); 3) to create new properties (not convenient). What do you think? --Infovarius (talk) 08:41, 10 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Infovarius for the feedback! Three days ago before adding the four properties to many of the WMF projects I had a small talk at #wikidata. We noticed the constraint violations one day later. Regarding your suggestions I prefer solution number two. I have 50 FF tabs open and need to close them first. Then I start the discussion at the talk pages. Best regards I18n (talk) 08:48, 10 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi Infovarius! At https://www.wikidata.org/?curid=14546815#WMF_projects is the start of a discussion as suggested by you. I do not know how to do it formaly. Can you please moderate the contributions of supporters of the two possible outcomes: expand / change the domain of the properties / domain of usage or keep all as it is now / today?
FYI: Wikidata:Database reports/WMF projects is the second time I get involved of using template:Wikidata list. Best regards I18n (talk) 19:51, 10 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
P.S. I was notified about property talk:P1406#Wikimedia_projects.

Wikidata list edit

Hi @Srittau! Hi @Jura! After I inserted more then two thusend Facebook Places ID (P1997) property values and created user:I18n/sandbox/Wikidata list/P1997. The list does not update. I get the error message:

( ! ) Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /data/project/listeria/shared.inc on line 176
Call Stack
#	Time	Memory	Function	Location
1	0.0063	231672	{main}( )	../index.php:0
2	0.1520	331592	Listeria->updatePage( )	../index.php:32

5	82.9116	736953208	Listeria->setItemPropStrings( )	../shared.inc:244

Questions:

a) I would like to generate cklickable links with the P117 property values using
https://www.facebook.com/places/ concatenated with the value ; example
https://www.facebook.com/places/108587065832218/ for Esino Lario: Esino Lario (Q43049)      the place for the Wikimania 2016
Can you please modify the table (maybe adding an extra column)?
b) Can you please confirm the error and open a bug report please?
c) I like to have Reasonator links for the items. How does this work?

Thanks for your help in advance! Best regards I18n (talk) 14:33, 7 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately I don't have a good solution for that problem. The query is taking too long, that is why it is aborting. You could try to reduce the number of columns, since this should reduce the query time needed. Another possible solution is to split the list, for example by country. About the custom link, I am not sure how to do it with WDQ. Maybe to row_template parameter to the Wikidata list template could help here, although I have not played around with that myself. --Srittau (talk) 16:24, 7 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Duplicates edit

Hi :) When you come across duplicates, you don't need to move the sitelinks and create a talk page asking for the item to be deleted, you can just merge the two items. See Help:Merge for how to do that. We don't actually delete duplicates, we just redirect the IDs.

If something really does need deleting, you can add a request on Wikidata:Requests for deletions without needing to create a talk page.

Call for participation in the interview study with Wikidata editors edit

Dear I18n,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King’s College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research that develops a personalized recommendation system to suggest Wikidata items for the editors based on their interests and preferences. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I would love to talk with you to know about your current ways to choose the items you work on in Wikidata and understand the factors that might influence such a decision. Your cooperation will give us valuable insights into building a recommender system that can help improve your editing experience.

Participation is completely voluntary. You have the option to withdraw at any time. Your data will be processed under the terms of UK data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018). The information and data that you provide will remain confidential; it will only be stored on the password-protected computer of the researchers. We will use the results anonymized to provide insights into the practices of the editors in item selection processes for editing and publish the results of the study to a research venue. If you decide to take part, we will ask you to sign a consent form, and you will be given a copy of this consent form to keep.

If you’re interested in participating and have 15-20 minutes to chat (I promise to keep the time!), please either contact me at kholoudsaa@gmail.com or kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdmmFHaiB20nK14wrQJgfrA18PtmdagyeRib3xGtvzkdn3Lgw/viewform?usp=sf_link with your choice of the times that work for you.

I’ll follow up with you to figure out what method is the best way for us to connect.

Please contact me if you have any questions or require more information about this project.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards

Kholoudsaa (talk)
