Task/s: Remove elevation above sea level (P2044) data for mountains (instance of (P31): mountain (Q8502)/hill (Q54050)) imported from Cebuano Wikipedia.
Code: not public at this point
Function details: Remove any elevation above sea level (P2044) statements, that are either unsourced or only sourced by Cebuano Wikipedia. In case a statement sourced from Cebuano Wikipedia has other sources only the reference is removed. The items are found using these queries:
- [1] (40289 results) any items with a elevation above sea level (P2044) claim sourced by Cebuano Wikipedia.
- [2] (205796 results) any items with a sitelink to Cebuano Wikipedia and an unsourced elevation above sea level (P2044) claim.
Why should the data be removed: Especially for mountains the elevations stated on Cebuano Wikipedia are too low. (Extreme example: Knittelkar Spitze (Q1777201)) This due to inaccurate coordinates and the practice of giving both a ("Gitas-on" ~ height) and a "Highest point" for mountains. Only the former heights were imported into Wikidata, frequently without mentioning the source.
The second query will remove some good elevations without source, that weren't imported from Cebuano Wikipedia, but I expect them to be a small minority. If the community agrees on it, I can also remove all other elevations (not only those for mountains) imported from Cebuano Wikipedia (and labeled as such).
@Ahoerstemeier:: you originally proposed this at Wikidata:Bot requests.

- Should include hill (Q54050) as well. Instead of removing, in the manual edits I usually deprecated these statements, added the source and the qualifier reason for deprecated rank (P2241) algorithmic failure (Q22296213). And I would limit the scope to those items which have no other sitelinks than ceb - would delete too many correct unsourced values otherwise. Ahoerstemeier (talk) 09:18, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- I don't see the value in retaining these plainly wrong statements. Therefore I'd like to remove them instead of deprecating them. Adding Cebuano Wikipedia as a source would complicate the task as I would need to check that the value matches the value in the article wikitext. If the intention behind deprecating the statements is to prevent bots from adding the value again, I'd prefer to publish a list of "bad sources" that bots must not work from. Most items that have a sitelink to cebwiki also have a link to svwiki, containing the same wrong information, so these items should be included too. --Pyfisch (talk) 10:01, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

- Remove the data. It is known to be wrong. Thierry Caro (talk) 10:18, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Good news. Thanks for doing this. --- Jura 10:41, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Just to clarify: I support deletion of the statements because I don't think the reference (indirectly) used supports the claims. --- Jura 17:15, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- I will approve the request in a couple of days, provided that no objections will be raised. Lymantria (talk) 09:10, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- @Tkarcher: Saw your post about cebwiki in the German chat, thought this might interest you. --Pyfisch (talk) 13:47, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
