Babel

Babel lets you view and edit more than one language on Wikidata. Just add e.g. {{#babel:de-N|en-3|es-1|fr-2|nl-3|it-4|da-0}} to your user page. With the same language codes you can add links to your userpage on Wikipedia e.g. de:User:User123. --Tobias1984 (talk) 16:08, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Hallo Les Meloures! Du hast vor Kurzem den WP-Artikel "Sens de circulation des trains" von right- and left-hand train traffic (Q14747203) nach rail direction (Q17152310) verschoben. auch der lëtzebuergesche Artikel ist dort gelandet. IMHO ist das nicht ganz richtig: right- and left-hand train traffic (Q14747203) behandelt die Fahrordnung, also ob Züge bei mehrgleisigen Strecken in der Regel links oder rechts fahren; genau darum geht es in den beiden genannten Artikeln auch. rail direction (Q17152310) mit dem englischsprachigen WP-Artikel dagegen behandelt etwas anderes, nämlich Fahrtrichtungen, also "up" and "down", Nord und Süd etc. Ich schlage vor, dass wir "Sens de circulation des trains" und "Fuerrichtung (Eisebunn)" (zurück) nach right- and left-hand train traffic (Q14747203) verschieben. Wrong calendar

Your edits to the death and birth dates for Elizabeth I of England (Q7207) were incorrect because you falsely claimed the dates were in the Gregorian calendar. virtually all sources, whether written at the time of events, or written recently by historians, use the Julian calendar for events that happened in England while the Julian calendar was in effect there. The Gregorian calendar did not go into effect in England until 1752 in England. Jc3s5h (talk) 15:53, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

Elizabeth I of England (Q7207), after your edits, does not mention any Wikipedia project as a source for the information. If a statement already cites as a reference a source that is better than a Wikimedia project (and Wikimedia projects should be regarded as unreliable sources) it isn't appropriate to any information to that property from a Wikimedia project. So infoboxes shouldn't come into it.

At least in the English Wikipedia, infoboxes do not indicate which calendar the date is stated in. If it has familiar months (January, February...) and years that seem about right, it could be Gregorian, Julian, or Roman Republic. Basically, if you want to add dates before 1923, you should read a book about calendars, such as Marking Time: The Epic Quest to Create the Perfect Calendar by Duncan Steel or Calendrical Calculations by Dershowitz and Reingold. Even then, there are some areas of the world (like Germany, which used to be a bunch of prinipalites, duchies, etc. that adopted the Gregorian calendar at different times) where only a scholar specializing in that area can interpret a date. I don't understand why you don't or won't undertand my simple information, that I did the changes only for test. Julian dates were not shown at all in our biographical infobox and I tried to find out were the problem is. I'm a responsable Wikipedian and I only wanted to find a solution for a problem and to know wether it works or not. Now it works and the julian dates are shown correctly with the information that it is a julian date. This is a very important information in this sense, that now it is easy to compare dates in the article-text and dates in the inobox and so make sure if the dates shall be mentioned as gregorian or julian. Do you mean that an infobox in some Wikipedia in some language does not actually contain the birth or death date, but rather gets it from Wikidata? I was thinking of the other direction, where the information was contained in an infobox and you added it to Wikidata on the basis of what the infobox said. In any case, I have never seen an infobox that displays to the reader whether the date is Gregorian, Julian, or something else. Jc3s5h (talk) 16:05, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

Of course, similar to the infoboxes for cycling races we try in the lb:wiki to take a maximum of information from Wikidata and it works very fine. In this article you may see it. By this occasion I also found out that a property for a statement of the coronation-date is missing on Wikidata. Liddermécher/Singer-Songwriter

Hello. As I understand the word of "Liddermécher" describes a person who's writing ("making") songs, for sure, but does this word imply the fact that person also sings? For me "Singer-Songwriter" if not better variant but can be used as a synonym. --Wolverène (talk) 19:17, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

Making songs includes writing text, composing and singing. But I thing we shall do the same as the german Wiki and use Singer-Songwriter for english singing people and chansonnier for french singing (Singer-songwriters) and Liddermécher for Luxemburgish, German and others. --Les Meloures (talk) 19:53, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

spouse (P26) and no value

Hi Les Meloures,

Thanks for your note. The current approach is to set no value, if a person never married. Please see the sample on the property. Novalue means there is no spouse.

So I think that the correct information should be -- not married-- and not --no value-- which is a mathematical or statistical information and not one about relationships or social status. But if there can be changed something in the infoboxes, i ask you friendly if you have an idea how that can be done. We are working here together and so we should try to find solutions together and not say only it is like this and you can get rid with your problem. Did you see that in the french one there is an empty raw with a hyphen and a pencil-sign to change the information. But how can a non-value be changed? I didn' check already who put this as an example in the description of the (P26) but in my eyes its a complete non-sense to fill up raws with no-values when there is never a possibility to have one. Also this was never proposed nor discussed in the (P26)-description. If it is usefull it should be done with every property and the use should be known. So if there a concret idea behind this current approach to set no value, I would like to know it. Where was decided that it should be a current approach and for which properties. As the Wikidata give back-ground information, this iformation must be done a manner to be used without problems in the infobox. If this no-value has any usefull sense I would like to know which one. If it is only to generate empty raws in infoboxes, so there is a big problem that should be discussed in the property discussion. --Les Meloures (talk) 06:47, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

The general explanation about novalue is at Help:Statements#Unknown_or_no_values. If you think the display on frwiki is sub-optimal, you should bring it up there. Personally, I find the hyphen correct. The pencil is there for any information, even if it's unlikely to change, e.g. date of birth. --- Jura 06:50, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

So ok if this seems so important in the sense of wikidata so I don't understand why it's not all the time --no value-- by default, when the property is not filled with a real value. "novalue" as a statement means that it's known there isn't one (a statement that should be referencable). It doesn't mean we just don't have it. Similarly, "unknown" means that it exists and one searched for it, but couldn't find it. --- Jura 07:17, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

New Luxembourgish spelling

Gudde Moien. I didn't forget about the Luxembourgish Wikipedia, I just took a Wikibreak.:) I want to clarify: these changes are obligatory only for Schweedesch and Italieenesch, or it's affecting some another geography-related adjectives? Moien och. there are some others two, but for which the impact is less important. We will change step by step, and for words with 2 variants we will decide which one we keep on wikipedia-text, in the sense to do do no encylopedical misch-masch.

External sites use Wikidata identifiers, so it is important that we preserve the chain of references. We do this by making one item a redirect for the other. Call for participation in a task-based online experiment

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender system that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our system based on your previous edits.

Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue.

The study will start in late January 2022 or early February 2022, and it should take no more than 30 minutes.

Meteora as "rock formation"

Hi, I noticed now that in Meteora (Q3125051) you removed back in July the claim for the instance of rock formation (Q631305). This item refers to both the rocks and the monasteries situated on top of those (so it's both a geological and architectural reference). And because there's no separate item for just the rocks, do you have any better idea on what proper instance of (P31) to add (along with monastic community (Q87351459) which currently exists)? Rock

Hi, there is no rock-formation named Meteora. The rocks are sandstone, and as far as i see all the articles in Wikipedias describe principally the monasteries and not the geological situation. Meteora refers only to the monasteries. Without the monasteries, the item meteora doesn't exist.
