Motivation edit

Notified participants of WikiProject Ancient Greece Related properties: Pinakes author ID (P6831), Pinakes copyist or possessor ID (P8096), Diktyon ID (P12042)

The four properties proposed are a follow-up proposal to the Diktyon ID and a step towards importing data about >70,000 Greek manuscripts into Wikidata. The Pinakes database is the principal resource for Greek manuscripts which are identified by distinct, non-significant numeric IDs (= Diktyon ID (P12042)) on the one hand and, on the other, by their shelf number. As shelf numbers are non-unique, these are also identified in a 4-tiered way: By country, city, institution (archive (Q166118), library (Q7075)) and archival fonds (fonds (Q3052382)). The latter is especially significant for larger institutions which have many different fonds; for others, "fonds principal" is a generic term describing the fonds of Greek manuscripts of that institution. All countries and cities are already present in Wikidata, as most of the libraries, whilst archival fonds all need to be created with very few exceptions.

After creating and populating completely these properties, we could go about the next step of importing information on the manuscripts from the Pinakes database into Wikidata. --Epìdosis 19:09, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
