Heh, of course we do. Songs, tracks, and singles are conceptually different things, with different sets of properties and external identifiers. Wikipedia often groups them, on Wikidata we work very hard to keep them separate. A good place to begin learning about the music model is Wikidata:WikiProject Music. To my astonishment, the example in the Czech-language Wikinews has both a category for the date and a page for the date, so this separation is correct from my point of view. On the other hand, the separation of 2022 Oder environmental disaster (Q113505163) and Q113510191 makes no sense. In addition, this separation also contradicts the current handling of Wikinews categories. Because Wikinews categories are equated with normal Wikinews pages. See for example Dresden (Q1731) and Category:Dresden (Q4579870). Wikidata is primarily a database on the real world and not metadata storage for Wikimedia (this appears to be secondary aim). Therefore, looking from the perspective of Wikimedian page vs category may not be aligned with the aim to describe the world. There is an element for, for example, Earth (Q2). And then if you (or a computer, since Wikidata is machine-readable) ask: „Where can I find more information on Earth in Wikipedia?” it's obviously the article w:Earth (or any language version). When talking about Wikinews, there's rarely a sole page on the subject and Wikidata permits for only one sitelink in a given [language, project] pair. The only possibility to link the wiki-based entities to the abstract concept Q2 is via the Wikinews category (i.e. n:Category:Earth). And in fact an answer to the question „Where can I find more information on Earth in Wikinews?” is: navigate to the category.

Additionally, assuming that WN categories should be linked to their own Wikidata items, wouldn't they form a set completely distinct from items that are sitelinked to other sister projects? This would be against linking the knowledge. Msz2001 (talk) 15:19, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
